Well worth the money ...

My Christmas presents for my secretarial and signing biz, which I'm just now getting, are a new laser printer and swapping out two of my older computers for two new ones. Of course, now I've got a sharp pain in my head trying to get everything -- old and new -- networked together once again and play nice with each other.

I've never cut corners on equipment purchases. I have always spent more than I could afford to be assured of quality, and cut corners somewhere else. Although the cost of the printer was extreme, printing out 125 pages in just a little over three minutes is wonderful!

I can't agree more. Of course I went to school as a Computer geek/programmer etc...
So for me its all toys Smiley

I upgrade everyones PC for them, and half the time I can answer my phone "Tech Support" hehe.

But I spent just over $900 for my printer, and its been nothing but a dream. Even big packages start printing in under a minute...so no waiting 45 minutes for a package to spool.

Re: Well worth the money ... Shane

I upgrade computers every two years -- printers about every five. With my desktop publishing, I opted for a color laser this time and will give the inkjet a rest and use the other two lasers for backup.

When it comes to networking geek stuff, I've more or less taught myself in the school of "oops, don't ever do that again !!" I've got it peer-to-peer - hardwired and wireless through the router. My host computer, if that's the correct word -- the one I originally used when first setting up the network, is one of the ones I replaced, so it's like I'm starting from scratch, kind of. I've gotta figure out everything's IPs and put into Norton again, so I can get Norton to open up and quit blocking access. Two of the computrs are running Win2000 Pro and two are running XP Pro. It's still coming together a lot easier than when I originally was working with Win95 and 98.

Right now, everyone can use the new printer, and two computers are sharing.

Carolyn, Take the old to your closest elementary school. Thats what I did with my old puter and printer and they were glad to get it.

That's what I usually do. However, this year my son gets it. He's opening his own clothing store. He has a Compac and an Apple, or is it a Mac for his music/DJing biz, so I'm giving him the Dell. The other computer Hubby is cannibalizing for parts.
