What does an inmate use as proper identification?

Yesterday (or the day before) we talked about traveling to a jail to do some notarizations. What is it that the inmates use as ID? Someone mentioned about a bracelet with the inmates information. Is the bracelet an acceptable form of identification?

I've never done a jail signing. But the Shirley prision is about five minutes away from my office and I'm thinking about talking to the staff there. I already know two correctional officers (CO's) that work in the Shirley prision. I figure I can start there.

My state doesn't clarify the abovementioned question. Any insight in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Furthermore....

Just to clarify, I did do a search and was focused on msg # 43116 . This, however, is about CA. Does anyone have any information regarding jail signings in Massachusetts? If not, then an overall explanation will suffice.

Re: Furthermore....Just curious but how would you know

I meet the two correctional officers in the course of my business. I’ve worked along side with the Middlesex and Worcester county Sheriffs Department in serving court process. Correctional Officers, as well as Court Officers (those that keep peace in the courtroom), are usually considered special Sheriffs (or deputies [?]). Not to mention that I frequently take depositions to perpetuate testimony for the court’s use, and on many occasions I have come into contact with these two CO’s. Through time, we have developed a friendship.

Notary of MA,

Good for you and the gracious way you handled the answer to the anon's questions. I believe the question was meant to be unkind. Other than insinuating you had gone to the prison to visit, what else could that have meant? You are a class act.

Well Brenda.....

Well Brenda, thanks for your kind words.

Please note, however, I understand that this is a forum. It isn’t my life. I only chat here when nothing else is going on. I don’t dwell on what others say about me, regardless if it is directed in cynicism or not.

If I were socially awkward, then yeah, I’d probably post a response like yours and dwell on this type of non-sense. But I won’t. I will answer any question asked, whether it’s mundane, benevolent, or just plain malevolent.

Okay...I am starting to understand this game...

Maybe not...

but I think it has something to do with this post and the one where Hugh called her a starry eyed something or other and if you recall...he and I were buddies...I am not sure what is going on, but investigations will continue.

Who knows, this is only speculation, not given for fact...hmmm...it seems like someone has provided me proof that this anon gal has a very serious obsession with me... IF I am right...but I might be wrong. Here's a post to digest. I'll try to dig up the other ones that seemed to lead into this subtle little game you have been playing with my posts and writing to my business associates...read that as people I do business with...anyhow. I think it's enough. But, maybe it's not enough. Dumb arrogant Texans never can make up their minds...

Hugh and huge? His and Ness? Can you illuminate? You are usually very clear on what you mean...never quite this coy.

Okay...as Notary_MA says I have no life but this forum. I hope that's true for now...I have "investigating" to do.

Re: Okay...I am starting to understand this game...

Could this be why you posted your initial message in the first place? I hope you weren't trying to cause an unprofessional quarrel again. It seems suspicious now that you 'all of a sudden' think that the notary in question is obsessed about you.

If you have a personal bias against another notary, this is not the place to express it. I’m curious to find out how many times you rated the ‘notary in question’ with a red box. But, your “battle” is your “battle”. Just please respect this boars professional atmosphere and post your investigative conclusion somewhere else.

Re: Okay...I am starting to understand this game...

I have never rated anyone with a red box. I did it once on a anon post, then, as I later stated, I changed it back.

Now that I realize who you are, I will tell you now that you win. You are a very sick individual and you do not exist to me. In other words, if Harry chooses to let you on this board, and if I don't like it, Ding Dong this Witch is Dead. You are a dangerous person.

I am not going to play this game with you.

"Cause" a quarrel? Go back and re-read your words, the cause is an out-of-context insult you threw out.

It's sitting up there, blinking in neon lights, screaming "Yes, it's me, I did it...threw and insult for no reason at all but hey, I'm not causing unprofessional quarrels, nope, not me, it's all you Brenda!"

That'll teach you to compliment anyone Brenda. Put the gracious Texas Belle in her room, she's not appreciated.

***If I were socially awkward, then yeah, I’d probably post a response like yours and dwell on this type of non-sense***

I don't think I've ever seen someone take a compliment/atta boy and turn it into an insult, Notary of MA, but you've done a bang up job of it.

***I will answer any question asked***

As you've represented yourself as not socially awkward, you just contradicted youself. Socially skilled people like Brenda take the high road and when appropriate, don't answer, or offer up a compliment.

Anti-social people are just that - "anti" and don't have the graciousness that's embodied in being socially skilled. A good example of that would be you. How incredibly rude your comment was.

Most states use a photo id badge system. Therefore each inmate has a state issued photo id.

I never knew that! I thought the inmates attire was pocketless. (Inmate + pocket = trouble)

They don't carry them -- they wear them. It's usually a clip badge like most companies use.

Re: so each inmate carries a plastic ID card around?....

Ok - I cannot speak for other states of course, but in Florida the inmates in the jails do not have those plastic ID badges, only the ones in the State Correctional Institutes have them.
If we do a notarization in the jail, the prison officer can sign an affidavit that the prisoners ID has been confiscated and can state it is the person on the document.
In the CI we use the State issued CI identification card. - I have done several weddings in one of the CI's.

Yes, I was referring to State facilities. I'm not sure about local facilities concerning the photo i.d.s

And, glad you're doing better, Sylvia.

They don't have possession of the ID Badge when they need ..

to use it, the correctional officers will get it for the notary to use, then return it.

I'm sorry! I know it's slow out there.... but PRISONS?...Prisoners?? Maybe you could ask the Warden to be a "Credible Witness?" Or maybe the Guards? (I think they have the 'uniforms' on??) If the "Correctional Facility" can't "idenitify" their "Guests" then we have more of a problem than I thought. How are these proposed "customers" going to pay you for your services? I don't think I'd take a check! (and WHERE does the cash come from???) Business is a bit slow here in Colorado..but if you can walk and chew gum at the same time...and want to move.... maybe I can help you get started here. BUT.... NO PRISONS!!! You'll just have to deal with the "Citizens" if you want my help and advise.

Well.. .I was kind of thinking about providing services to the jail on a pro bono basis. I've learned that volunteering pays off in the end. It allows me to meet new people, and in a way, network.

Business isn't slow here... Least not for me.... I engage in other work besides the work of a notary public.

Let's clarify this...

I asked: "What does an inmate use as proper identification?" MichiganAL replied: "His paper clippings"

I then said: "oh I get it now! tada!"

I'm not sure what you're implying. I thought the joke was funny because I had to think about it for a few minutes....... Who is Susan? I'm know Susan.
