I saw that company's web site last year and both emailed and phoned them. Never got so much as a reply.

Maybe they aren't really interested in working with notaries.

I have no idea Rick, I've got enough on my plate and I like

the title companies I work with on the real estate side. I am very leary of doing title business with a company that does not have its own title plant.

They're not. I contacted them a few months ago.

They want title company's who are already in business or people who are willing to pay the fee to get started.

Question...who would be liable in the event of a title insurance claim? I would be very leery of this type of affair as I would not want to be subject to a title claim or a law suit because of a defective title report.

And how did they know I was not willing to pay their fee?

They are probably making sure they only call memers of the NNA first. They want people who will jump into a business without doing research.

Here's a similar story of mine:

Last year I was pursued by a national title company to do something similar with them...well, that's how they wanted me to see it but then, I realized that I was the one taking all the risk and they would not commit to anything. This seems like the same thing, except this will probably require a monthly payment to them...my guess only.

This is how the offer was presented to me from the title guy who was trying to get me into this job of me putting them (brochures) into the hands of my local people.

They wanted me to distribute their propaganda and make cold calls for them. In return I got some big promises but could not get anything written. These people were celebrity name droppers too. Whatever - big flag for me...I cannot abide name droppers and social climbers who flash their worth.

They proposed that I would be responsible for calling on local clients, promoting their online ordering system, closing loans or scheduling someone to do it and I would make all the money for the closing fee, plus earn a 6-10% commission. (Commission?? Is that type of arrangement legit for a Tx Title co.? I don't think you can have strictly commissioned sales people in Tx for the title cos...I could be wrong, though. The vp guy I met with a couple of times did mention having to pay me some type of monthly salary (very small) to make it work.

In their scenario, however, given my successful arrival at getting plenty of business for them, they would establish the brick/mortar part of it for me. Basically, they were painting it like I would be the queen of the prom and everyone would flock to me, but they did not want to tell me when I was proving to be a success.

At one point they said that some of their other reps doing this were making around $140,000 doing it part time. Yep.

And, then I found out this had never been done. Yep, again.

Insider secret: People will lie.

The reason this new office would be a smash hit was because I would have access to ordering titles online. This was the big secret way they would help me earn over $100,000 after my first year. (I am thinking...this was cool two years ago, but it ain't notta now.)

When I pressed them to tell me exactly

--What was it 6% of? [In the beginning they were throwing around big numbers and trying hard to get me on board...they actually indicated it was 6% of the insured amount of the title. Yeah...right on. I knew that could not be right. $100,000 house - $6,000 for me? No way they pay that.]

--Given the numbers I crunched for my area and showing them what my share "could" be would that ever be "enough" to establish the brick/mortar part? [Oops! We did not expect that! She knows about business plans. Uh oh. Probably wrong person. ] Boy, I saw the looks exchange over that one.

--Why would a local title company work with me/ them on abstracts??? (Suffice it to say that I know why this would be a really big problem and won't go into detal)

I think this question blew out their theory that all NSAs were gullible where get rich quick was concerned. Rats.) I was not supposed to research this myself. I was supposed to take their word for it all!

--They kept saying the online ordering too would sell my service/product for me. Finally I had to trell him that I was savvy enough to see it was a pretty simple program in some kind of a MS language...either MS access or VB/sql...if it was that hot I would ljust start building those.

Again, not supposed to know all this stuff.

Well...I never got a contract and also they quit calling a couple of notaries I had referred to them. They slinked off quietly realizing they'd have to scam someone else to do their promotions in the Heart of Texas, and of course, they too were finding out...
