Re: drum counter reset - thanks Barb25
Thanks for the info. Worked. I will be replacing the drum next week. I'm lucky in that one of the places I work has several 5040 printers. They don't refill. I have 5 extra cartidges I can refill. Also, they buy drum units. I have the 2 they replaced. I'm going to buy just the drum itself and install it in one of the spare drum units. Cost is under $40 on e-bay. I will let you know how it goes. If I screw up, I can go back to the one I'm using now which is working fine. I replaced the drum only on my 1250W minolta (back up printer) and it worked fine.

Art. I have the same printer. Do you refill your toner? I always wanted to try it, but dont have a clue on how.

I am not Art, but I use the same printer. I refill my toner, very easy! Using your toner cartridge, look for the round, clear plastic piece filling a "hole" in the cartridge. You must remove the tape and clear plastic piece and refill with toner. Replace the clear plastic piece, and re-tape. Voila! Toner has been refilled. Verrry easy! Be careful not to spill the toner, it is a BIG mess to clean up if you do. Good luck, you can email me if you have any problems or questions.

I always empty the remaining toner out before refilling. This is recommended by the toner supplier. It is quite easy. The biggest problem is getting the plug out. I use needle nosed pliers. Saves you a heck of a lot of $$ by refilling.
