what to charge
Just out of curiosity if you get a call to do some notarizations and it's an hour (40+ miles) away would a standard fee of $150.00 seem fair for travel? Not sure how many notarizations. Some guy called me and said he'd call me if he couldn't find someone else to do it at an earlier time. He wanted me there at 3:00 but I work til 5:00.

Is this for general notarizations or loan docs? If general, what is your state-allowed fee that you can charge for notarizations?--i.e., per sig or per doc? Additionally, if for general notariations, does your state have a set mileage fee you can charge?

for general notarizations plus mileage. You know I don't know if they do have a set mileage fee. I'll have to check. I don't think he needs me anyway because he didn't call back. I honestly didn't want to drive that far on a Friday nite anyways.

In Texas our set fee for such notarizations as an acknowledgement is $6.00. I make it very clear that the laws in Texas state that no one can charge a higher fee for this type of notarization. That being said, I tell them that I charge a "Separate" mobile fee of such and such. I then remind them that if they go to a notary, it will only cost $6.00. It is very important they understand the fees are separate. If it is that far, I would try and talk them in to finding a local Postnet, or Kinkos, or bank, or whatever. My mobile fee for general notarizations run between $10 and $50 depending on how far I travel and what time it is. Hope this helps.

Also, if they ask for a receipt, I will give them 2. One for the notarization, and one for my companies mobile fee.
