Any one have exp. advertising in local papers?

I am considering putting a small ad in a local paper, $180 for 6 months. I'm not sure it will be worth it, but I want to increase my CASH biz. I am wondering if any of you had any success in that area.

I've never done it and can't imagine it would be terribly effective. If people are looking for a notary, I don't think the newspaper would be the first place they would think to look, they're much more likely to use the Yellow Pages or Google.

$180 is more than I would be willing to spend to test something like that out, do they have a cheaper option?

Dont know if you have one there, but up here we have a Buyers Guide which is a newspaper of a sort that has various things in it like weekly rummage sales and used vehicles for sale and other advertising. In it is a section to put your ad like a business card. Alot of small business owners around here use it to promote business. Its a little less expensive and the paper is delivered for free to everyone. I personally havent advertised in it yet, but I do know other small business owners who have and they do get business from that ad.

I aree with Cali, I wouldn't expect much from a newspaper ad either. If you really want to tryk a newspaper of sorts, a better option would be a free neighborhood paper. You might want to consider places where they might let you post a small flyer, for instance at a supermarket, etc.

I advertise in the SBC yellow pages. I paid $139.00 for the year, this is for your name and phone number only listed in the "Notaries" section. They want $400+ for a small box ad. In my honest opinion it is not worth it. The majority of my cash notary calls come from online advertising. I always ask them were they obtained my information (most are from Notary Rotary or 123Notary.com.) this will help me determine which sites to not waste money on again (the least calls came from 50 State Notary and the NNA). Hope this helps!

Don't waste you money in newspapers. Go to yahoo or google or msn and list yourself in the local area. It's free.
