Attire

Every so often the subject of what to wear to a signing comes up. Now I have always done the slacks or skirt and a blouse. I've always thought that would go the same for others involved in mortgage/loan/real estate. So today I was caught a little off guard. As you may remember our house is on the market. Today I recieve a call from an agent for a showing, make the appointment, all is set. I could not believe it when she showed up with her client. The agent was wearing a pink velour althetic/jogging type outfit. You know the type, form fitting, not for working out. Way to casual. I would never, I repeat never wear that to a signing.

Sounds like Edie Britt, the sexy realtor on Desperate Housewives! Those type outfits seem to help her sales!! Smiley

It is a shame that people forget what the word professional means.

Profound stmt Charles!

It's sad, but true. I had a loan officer show up for a signing in shorts and flip-flops!
Guess we're a different generation.

I love wearing my sweats and slippers in my home office, but love dressing professionally when I go out to do signings.

Maybe if she were 30 pounds lighter and the customer was a man.

I must say I agree for the most part of what you said, professional attire IS best and SHOULD be the least you expect of yourself.
But as a realtor for more than 12 years, I have had my days off, where some person (they did not have a realtor) calls me up from the sign in the front yard, and asks if I could show them the house. I try to get an associate to do it but that doesn't always work and my job is to sell my clients homes and realtors really work when everyone else is not working.

Now, I have showed up ONE time only in sweats, BUT before you say I'm unprofessional, I had told the couple that this was my day off and that I had just walked out of the gym and I needed to take a shower before meeting them if I couldn't get an associate to mett them sooner. Well, they didn't have the time for that since they were out of town buyers and they didn't mind if I was wearing sweats and I couldn't get anyone else to drop everything and go. Well, as unbelievably uncomfortable as I was, I decided to "go the extra mile for my seller, try to "hog" the deal and sell the house. I showed up in a sweats and a baseball hat (thank god I had one of those in the car because my hair was not pretty), not what I wanted that as my first impression, but they were fully aware that I was taking time out from my day off and they had to take me as I was.
I so wanted to have a half hour to shower and change but that wasn't working for them.
We wrote the PA though and I got the "you clean up real good" when the husband saw me in my "professional" attire. The wife was just happy that I was willing to do that because she LOVED the house and was happy that they wouldn't have to road-trip through WI anymore.

Would I dress in sweats on purpose, no way! But when I work I give 120% and my clients know that I go the extra mile. Had I not gone, the house might have never sold. The builder had tried for almost a year and never could get a buyer...just goes to show that you never know when "the" buyer will come-a-calling.

Have a great day all.
just my 2.5 cents

I understand that RE's sometimes have very little notice. This one however called over 2 hours before to set an appointment to show the house. Also she had to come up the Cajon Pass which is a 40 minute drive cutting up through the mountain range (she was coming from one side of the mountain range, we are on the other side of it). Not to bad of a drive when weather is good other than the other crazy CA drivers who drive like they are in a big hurry.

Allthough we dress "professionally" we still wear what is consider "uniform" but Cacky pants with a polor shirt that has our business name engraved on it ...and/or our badges. Its not to casual but not to dressy!

Sorry I couldn't resist.
