Breakfast in Columbus....

I'm thinking of hosting or throwing a breakfast for the industry. Inviting lots of title companies, lenders, brokers, appraisers, etc... sort of a networking breakfast for people in our industry.

I think its a great way to make connections, and in the past I developed great relationships that lead to lots of business in Indiana.....hope to do the same here in Ohio.

Any signing agents here in columbus that would be interested in helping to put this together?
I'm still fairly new to the area, so I could use the assistance....and wouldn't mind meeting a bunch of ya.

I'd shoot for middle to late February, to make sure its fully promoted.

Good - out of the box way of working Shane. I do those type of things...startig a long time ago in my real estate career (new home seminars, etc) I liked doing them and your right, you meet some good people and contacts. Set up a network with any agents that you work with on this and it would be 100 times more beneficial. If you want to know what I do, then let me know and I will email ya.

Have a good night.

I'm always up for suggestions. I put a couple of these together in Fort Wayne, and then started doing them on a monthly basis. But as with any move to a new location, it takes a few times to get it right for this area....

so I'll appreciate any input you can give.

feel free to email away: [e-mail address]

Greetings

I love to see this grass-roots type of organizing going on. It appears tome however that there is one small item missing and I have not been able to see how it can be overcome. I am also a Realtor (a member of National Assoc of Realtors, California Association of Realtors and Orange County Commercial Association of Realtors). Realtors area a powerful force in real estate with extensive political actions committees, legal representation and educational benefits. For some reason the notary business seems very hard to organize and I suspect that is because there are so many part-timers in it. When businesses like TC's, Brokers, lenders, appraisers, etc see a group of Relators there is an expectation of mutually profitable relationships form a powerful organizations.

Unfortunately there is no such organization in the notary business. I have been trying to promote organization for the last year here and among others. I personally believe that grass-roots organizations such as you are attempting to start and the few that are already going such as in Texas and Florida are what will eventually unite this business in a credible force. I believe such an organization needs to be assembled from the bottom up. I am sure that if you could get a structured group assembled that the next step would be to select representatives from each independent structured group to assemble a statewide group and after that a national group. Until there is some organization notaries will not have the respect of other professionals: not from other businesses and definitely not from groups who employ notaries. Best of luck

Re: Greetings

Well Said Charles. I agree with you. However with so many of us so far apart how are we to start? And keep it going so that we can do as you said and get an organization going? HMMMMM food for though,.....

I really think the key is to do it locally

If you can get a group of noaries together in your area, even if its only a few to have regualr meetings and then form a structured group. Everyone seems to be afraid of structure but all you really need a basic organization for lets say a lunch. If you get together once a month and have a moderator with say lunch and a discussion period that is all you need. The moderator can keep any needed note initially and as the group grows get additional people to help with the format. Eventually that core group will become a, say for example, the Ferndale Notary Association. Then you get to gether and get a representative to go maybe quarterly to meet with notarys in other places to spread the gospel. I don't mean to flog any particular philosophy but look at what 12 people created 2000 years ago.

Anyway waht is necessary is just to start meetoing regularly to discuss issues that affect your own business: you'll find that there are common issues that as a group you can address.

I would love to do something like that. I guess I should put some thought into it and see who I can get to do this with me in my area.

Do it yourself.

By virtue of this post I empower you to start you own notary bunch for lunch group. Someone just needs to do it. Just invite some notaries to lunch, every month, I guarantee you that it will grow from there

Re: Do it yourself.

I think I will it is a great idea and a neat way to make some new friends/associates. (hopefully that is the right word) Maybe I can start with some that are on this board and go from there.

Wouldn't this end up being the same as the NNA?

Yes, its exactly like the NNA, go to one of their local...

chapter meetings and make sure that you vote for the elected officers!
