Does anyone use "Privacy Manager" from SBC??
I keep getting junk faxes and I'd like to stop it without changing phone numbers. If you use Privacy Manager does it impact the business you get or is everyone quite comfortable with it. I can't recall any of my clients cloaking their phone numbers.

o.k. try again. I have it on my personal line and I love it. While most of my calls come on my business lines, business callers that call on my home line will allow their number to pass through.

Privacy Manager is a system that the phone company has that can elimiate calls from telephones whoe numbers are blocked. I have been having some problems with junk faxes and this would stop them since if there is no phone number shown or name the system blocks access to your line. It is configurable so that it can make an announcement for you if you are being troubled by unsolicited sales calls. Check the SBC sit www.sbc.com It has an intreeactive tutorial on the syste.
Brest regards, Charles

Re: What is privacy manager?
Thank you Charles.
I have a few friends that block their number and even my mother does it. I'll have to see if this is for me or not.
On my business line I don't get too many solictors. One evening when I kept receiving crank ( sp) calls every 20 minutes I finally told the caller that I worked for the government and that by 8 am the next morning I would have the calls traced to the number they ( I could hear people laughing in the background) were calling from. Didn't get any calls after that.

I've had PM for years and only once did it block a call from a client. (client called with a blocked #) I figure that if a company is going to call me anonymously or block their number, they have something to hide. jmo
