Fees for "last minute" signings?

Very recently, I have received two last minute signing requests, and am not sure how or even if I should change my regular fee schedule to accomodate SS's that need a quick responder. Strongly desire opinions on this, from both right and left coast, if you don't mind. By the way, I did have a very good signing week, will finish off with a re-fi at 4:00pm today.

I really don't adjust my fees for last minute signings. Although recently I have been giving it some thought.

I too have been thinking of increasing for last minute..but, then I don't want to lose those companies either. I think to add 25.00 would be fair?

$25.00 is obsurd! There must be a preminum charge for urgency. My fee is $110.00
Please don't nickle and dime what we do. Notarial Practice is a Profession.

I charge at least $125 for a 1st and if I'm bored at the beginning of the month and have nothing to do I don't add anything else but if I'm swamped (last two weeks of the month) I add $50.

Yes, but anonymous seems to be saying charge $110 extra. Am I reading that right? I charge a min. of $125. and couldn't see going lower, not with the cost of doing business here!

That's what I read too Beth. I'm tired of the stupid. I've had too much of a dose this past week with it.

I could see charging an extra fee for last minute, say $25 or even $50 more. But $110? That seems like a big fantasy.

lol, yep. I don't know of anyone who would pay that much above the regular fee. $50 is pushing it.

I had a very well known SS call me as I was on the way to complete a signing for them....

They openly stated they were in a bind and wanted me to sign the second one after the 7:00PM appointment I was on the way to. No problem, I even stuck to my stated, normal fees and they wanted me to work with them and accept $75 including e-docs.
I could not help but laugh as unprofessional as I feel about doing that... I couldn’t help it.
They said they could not pay my fees and did not call back.

"they wanted me to work with them and accept $75 including e-docs."

Dontcha love that? When did "work with me" become a euphamism for "bend over"?

This last week I was called by a title company who "found" me (on the internet is my guess), and while they told me the way they do business ("we'll call two to three days in advance, you call the BO, confirm the appointment date and time, and gather any location/map info needed, we forward all docs to the BO, WITH prepaid package YOU will drop off when they are complete........" etc., etc ......)

I WAS THINKING ........ "here's somebody who DOESN'T call at 5:00 PM, then send DOCs via email that arrive after 7:30 PM for an 8:00 PM appointment??????????????" ........

You could have knocked me over with a feather!!

Charge them more?

I told them the price they quoted was FINE as long as they called OFTEN!!!

What gets me is sometimes companies will call at the last minute and even tell you that they are desperate. They will pay you more than you would normally charge. I had one pay me $175 for a closing I would normally do for $125. This was there offer not mine. You do a great job for them, they pay you and never call you again.

Would this be called a "one night sign"?

Yes, I think so. They never respect me the next morning. In fact, once that happens, it seems they never respect me again, period...until they want another quick signing.

They don't write, they don't call and the check is always in the mail!

It would depend on if it were an actual Last Minute (call you at 9pm and must be signed before midnight) or if it's a Same Day (signing can be worked into your schedule) I do not charge extra for Same Day because both the Borrower and the assigning company must be flexible enough for me to work them in, or I just won't accept the signing. For last minute signings I charge my base fee for that area + $35.00
