Didn't want to hi-jack Charm's breakfast post Smiley

I've been keeping your son in my prayers. My son-in-law just returned from Iraq 2 weeks ago. He got to hold his son for the first time. My grandson is 6 months old. Thanks to web cams my daughter and son had been able to "visit" with him. This was his second Iraqi tour in less than 3 years. We're hoping it's his last. He's a ranger so they get called in a lot.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know, your son and your family are with us.

My best wishes for you and your family!!! I have a friend whose hubby got his third trip out there because he's a doc, should be home at the end of the month. I really feel for those guys and at the same time happy that my son is only 15 right now.

I've seen your picture on your profile...you have a 15 year old son? You don't look old enough for that. Hide it well.

Thank you Lily and Charm! I didn't mean to hijack Charm's post either. I was just really happy, which I know you understand.

I have 5. Three girls...26, 27, & 30. and two boys 20 & 19. So even though it would be hard to have any of my kids over there...this is my baby! (He hates it when I say that.) He is a Scout, which scares the you know what out of me. Not that anything over there is any safer.

I'm so happy for all who have made it home safe to their families. My heart goes out to all who have lost someone and my prayers to all who are there and their families back here waiting.

I try to stay busy, but this has been a really slow month with too much time on my mind. Hopefully things pick up!

My son-in-law began as a Scout and then decided to up the ante and become a Ranger. It was very nerve-wracking for my daughter. At the time she had just found out she was pregnant with their first child! But my son-in-law said he had to be part of special forces as it was just something he felt he had to do.
Is your son part of the Ft. Benning infantry?

No, actually he is part of the NH National Guard Field Artillery. He joined when he was 17 and a senior in high school. His unit was deployed the day after he signed the papers, but he couldn't go because he had to graduate and go through basic. His unit went over as MP's at the time. He graduated in June 2004, left for basic 3 days after he turned 18 in August 2004. He came home from basic (Fort Sill OK) in November 2004. Then he did the one weekend a month until March, when he went to El Salvador for two weeks to help train. Shortly after returning home from that, he welcomed his unit home. The next day he called me and told me he volunteered to go....He is now with an infantry unit out of PA. Some of his unit from here are heading back over there, and he told me if they do, he is going to try to extend to be with them. And now he says when he comes back, he is going full-time active and is thinking about Special Forces.

Lily.....Please thank your son-in-law for his service and tell him I wish the best for him and his family. I'm sure he is enjoying making up for lost time with the little one. And I'm sure your daughter is on cloud 9 to have the family together. It's must have been hard for both of them to be apart during that special time.
