JOURNAL ENTRIES ?
For Loan Docs, is it ok to have borrower(s) sign only one time and in the colum labeled document signed only state loan docs? I have always made a journal entery for each document notarizied, but anouther notary said it was okay to only state loan docs. Notary in California.

The other notary is wrong, keep doing it the way you've been doing it.

Yes, I use the NotRot journal. And no, I don't make a seperate line entry since each document is identified by name already.

Think about this... What if someone asked you if a Survey Affidavit was signed and notarized? Could you answer the question if you didn't list each document by name? What if they needed a copy of your journal showing that the Survey Affidavit was signed and notarized?
I believe, CA statutes stipulate that each document needs to be identified in the mandatory journal. Many states, like FL do not require the use of a journal, but it is best to keep one if only because of the type of questions I wrote above.

Another Reason Why Separate Line Entries Are Smart
A couple of years ago, I was asked to submit one line entry from my journal: First to the Sec of State and then as a result of a subpeona for a notarization 8 months prior (for a Deed of Trust). It was a case of fraud. Since I was taught long ago to do separate line entries, it was not a problem.
Once I was deposed, I was thanking GOD that I do separate line entries because my "attention to detail" as a Notary Public came into play, Big Time. Although the case went to trial, since "my backyard" was clean, it wasn't all that bad and I wasn't on the stand for very long. Imagine if my one line entry for an entire loan docs package was just , "Loan Docs"!

Re: I Use Notary Rotary Journal
I use the hardcover journal I got here at Notary Rotary. I only have the borrower sign once but I can check off the appropriate documents notarized. There are even blanks where I can fill in documents that aren't listed. I can look back at any page and immediately tell what was notarized by what was checked off. I can even tell what was an ack and what was a jurat.

Re: I Use Notary Rotary Journal...me too. n/m
When I started I used to do one entry for each notarization, but now with this NOT Rot journal, I just have them sign once, and check what ever I notarize. I hope I m doing nothing bad here.
