1. Read msg #33325, lots of smart people have put together a "must read/see/do" list for us newbies. 2. Invest in a good quality laser jet printer. HP and Brother make good models, generally accepted amongst the Title company and SS world. 3. Cell phone: always on, always near you, with a calendar handy to keep up w/appointments. 4. Invest in patience. First of the month will go slowly, mid-month will pick up, and from the 20th or so 'till the end of the month, you'll hate the sound your phone makes. 5. Communicate with others often on this board, and utilize other message boards as well. Lots of good info out there, just NEVER ask another notary to share their list of good companies with you. You gotta pay your dues, just like everyone else on this site. And finally, read #6. 6. Sign up with as many companies as you can, and stay away from title companies. You are not ready for the big leagues yet, stick with SS's for a year or so.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!

Really good advice. Also, use the orange search button at the top of the page to try and find the answer before you post. You'll get eaten alive when you ask something that has been asked a dozen times or more before.
From experience, ALWAYS ALWAYS search for info on SS before you accept the job. My first one turned out to be the most I've ever been offered and have never been paid for. At the time that $300 was just too good to turn down. Yeah right. I ended up working for "free" seeing how I haven't gotten a check. If I had searched first, I would have seen immediately that there were NO positive comments about this SS.
Don't get discouraged by the lack of phone calls. Keep signing up until you "hit"
Best wishes on your new business.

Assign yourself a forum alias or use your name and include your state when posting. Posting anonymously will garner less respect and in some cases could get you confused with the one anonymous poster who always posts nasty and mean. If you don't want to use your name - a lot of us don't - just come up with an alias and your state id.

It takes a lot of writing emails and researching on internet.

It would be a great idea to include your state Id with your posts. As the scheduling coordinator for our company, your posts would mean much more if you included the state in which you are in. Good luck to you and I hope our paths cross!!!!
