Notarize This!
Just received a new e-mail from Britney stating that the amount invoiced was way over the amount that they ever pay. Invoiced for $175.00 will only be getting paid $90.00. Add this company to your NO - NO List.

Did they agree to your $175 fee before you took the job? That is extremely high for a signing service.

I have been paid that plus in recent months by three different CA signing services...I think it just depends on the location of the notary and if they can get a better deal.

Not really too high, I have got that amount from several SS too.

While I'm sure there are exceptions, the vast majority of signing services aren't going to pay anywhere near $175 for a signing. A lot of them don't even charge the TC that much.
And this is kind of beside my main point, which was whether he had discussed the fees with the SS before the job, whether they agreed to it and then screwed him, or whether he was trying to screw them with his fees.

CaliNotary, This signing involved two different days of doing this closing. The first signing was on the 26 of Dec., making a one-way trip of 55 miles. The signing was completed but the borrowers figures were wrong, but they wanted to go ahead and sign as due to the Holiday they were not able to contact their lender, and they knew they had the right to cancel. I got a call from Ricardo requesting me to go back and do new docs on the 28th of December, and get the signing done and the docs returned by the 29th. per TC's request plus Ricardo's. The docs didn't come in till afternoon and the borrowers were both at work at two different locations. Had to go to Loveland for the Mr. signing, then to Boulder for the Ms. signing and this had to be done in order to get the docs dropped off for Fed Ex before the 6:00p.m. deadline to go out in time for the docs to arrive by next day. This was a 110 mile trip with both work sites from home only one way. I charged $85.00 for the Loveland signing as it was over an hour from my residence, then $65.00 for the Boulder site which was 45 plus miles from Loveland, then $25.00 to download this set of Docs, as I did not charge him for the 26th closing, making me download 4 sets of docs and only charging them for the second set, the TC's copies and the borrowers copies. I thought I was reasonable and fair due to the rush and the next day delivery and going to both spouses work sites.

Here's the deal, though.
Do you have it in writing that they were going to pay $175? If you don't, then then who's to say what price was agreed upon? Verbal doesn't count. I have had jobs that began at $125, and worked it's way up to $200 because the lender decided they needed an extra deed or something that wasn't in the original loan. But I always had something in my hand to indicate that the company aggreed to that amount. I never begin a job unless I have a comfirmation for the amount agreed upon and never do an extra add on without that confirmation in my hand. "If it isn't written down, it didn't happen."

I have worked with "Notarize This!" for several years. I have always found them to be fair, and they have always paid me the agreed fee promptly. You should (have, before 2nd signing) make clear to them the time and travel involved. They will most likley pay you when they understand.
I would have charged more than you.

Re: $175.00 -- NOT
Okay - I'm trying to get this straight in my head.
1. First signing was a round trip of 110 miles. 2. Re-sign necessary because figures incorrect. 3. Re-sign was 220 miles roundtrip. 4. You blew off the first signing fee because your time with BOs, and travel time are worth nothing to you. 5. I'm not even going to try to figure out much time has been involved in these two signings between downloading, printing/copying, travel and signing. HOWEVER, I do know for sure that if I traveled 330 miles, my travel fee ALONE would exceed $200.00. 6. Was nothing discussed and confirmed in writing regarding the re-sign fee and the excess mileage fee? 7. Reasonable and fair ??? for who?--certainly not for you !!

NOTARIZE THIS PAID THE NOTARY AS AGREED
Just to clarify. We never agreed to pay $175 for the signing. We didn't even get that much from the client. We told the ntoary that if they could produce the confirmation with this amount, as we do for every assignment, we would be more than happy to review the situation again.
We did however send the notary $80 for the first signing, as she asked and we agreed to. We also sent her $90 for the 2nd trip to try and appease her. When she invoiced us for $175 we just assumed it was for the entire assignment, 1st and 2nd trip and trid to compromise. When she tried to get more money out of us, we asked for proof so we could resolve it, and felt we might be getting taken advantage of. She never responded and called the client and slandered our company to them. Bad business pratices for sure and now a legal issue. We will honor any fee we agree to. But ask that if there is a dispute, we are provided with proof of the agreed fees. We send out a confirmation with the fees just to avoid problems like these. Most notaries require the confirmation before going out to the assignment. We regret the miscommunication with the notary and appreciate the completion of the signing. But we can not justify sending out an additional check when we have no record of agreeing to an amount so inflated from our standard agreed fee. Lastly, the client only paid us for 1 trip so we ate the 2nd fee we paid her just to keep good business. Unfortunately, she did not do the same.
