OT, terribly OT. Thank goodness that college resumes
tomorrow and my daughter has gone back to OC. I just had 6 weeks of continuous partying with kids from all over the country (my daughter hosts several bulletin boards dedicated solely to college kids having fun). Kids coming, kids going, this place was like grand central station with over 4000 watts of metal blaring continuously (we have a stage sound system and numerous musical instruments): my daughter is a music and marketing major. Now finally, I can settle down with a cup of coffee, listen to some jazz and just generally chill out. I took the last bunch to catch the bus for the airport this morning. They are all great kids but I can't even think of keeping up with them. I'm drained emotionally and physically. Wow, I think that there was enough energy here to power a small city! Whew!

Don't you wish, Charles, that college age energy could be bottled and sold?? Wow, winter break is never a break for parents!
Still, I'd be willing to bet your daughter loves you to pieces for allowing her friends into your home and life. That kind of selfless parenting gets you nominated for Father of the Year.
Enjoy your coffee, pet your dog and breathe in the quiet =)

I feel your pain.....
This semester was the first time I sent my daughter back to college and was actually looking forward to packing her up! She turned 21 last October and being an athlete, was not able to do any partying on campus during "season". Needless to say, she made up for it during winter break. I certainly couldn't keep up with her comings and goings. I just wanted her back at school. I'm GLAD for what I don't know! :-)

I hope your daughter's athletic program is better than
what I've been through. My daughter is a Varsity Sailor, on e of the top women sailors on the West Coast in both NCAA and PICYRA but she started college when she was 16. I used to try and make all the regattas because that was one hard drinking bunch she sailed with and the away coaches were as bad as the rest of them. Even though they all signed the NCAA waivers no one seemed to care. The team was very popular and brought in a lot of alumni money because it ws one of those rare nexus points where they could do no wrong. It really tears me up, she's 18 now and going into her junior year next semester. I'd rather have her and her friends close by, at least that way I kind of know what's going on. Being in the middle of the emerald triangle makes my home a very popular stop on the college circuit. I have no idea when it happes but other parents tell me that eventually they get serious: I can't wait!

Re: I hope your daughter's athletic program is better than
She's NCAA division II Volleyball and the coaches and the girls are very dedicated. The few who had imbibed during season were dealt with. Zero tolerance for athletes. I think that's what made Winter break so difficult. Her 21st Birthday was such a drag and she more than made up for it over Christmas.
It's out of her system now. She's back and preparing for Spring season, so no more drinking (Thank Goodness!). She's also captain next year so she gets to make sure the rest behave. Not an easy task, especially with Freshman!
Wow. 16 is very young to go away to college. I suspect you have a serious student on your hands and don't have much to worry about. Of course, being Mom's & Dad's, what else are we going to do! :-)

Re: OT, terribly OT. How nice you are the kind of people
and have the kind of home that make kids feel welcomed and willing to stay. But I got tired just reading about it!

That makes me tired just reading it. It sounded liek lots of fun too though. Kids at any age bring something special into your life whether it be the loud friends and parties or the quiet house htey leave behind. LOL

Re: My parents feel your pain, Charles!
I'm the youngest of 5 and we're all relatively close in age. From the time number one son started high school/college (he's now 35) until I finished (now 27) my parents bought headache remedies in bulk. My dad also swore he has suffered a hearing loss!

I would gladly trade you my two year old Charm for your Four year old. He climbs on everything the child has no fear even after biting his tongue and needing stitches. Go figure....

I remember those days. My daughter was a talker, in fact
she thought she was radio personality and used to play at having her own radio program. I had given her a toy PA system with a tape recorder and she was on that thing all the time. She even made her own commercials. She talked and talked and talked and she is still talking. Of course that shouldn't come as a surprise since its been suggested that it may come from my side since I enjoy a conversation myself The place is like a mauseleum now. I miss the activity and the energy. Its just me and my puppy: at least until Summer!

Re: I remember those days. My daughter was a talker, in fact
I've never used 'baby talk' on this one and she's got quite a vocabulary going, she sings and dances all over the place and uses three and four syllable words when you least expect it. My parents really get a kick out of sending her things to encourage this, (think they hate me?)she got a karaoke machine and some kind of bull horn thing that changes her voice ....I just LOVE that thing! I just want to go to my happy place by 6 because I'm crazy by then. I do miss the older ones at school, but I have to say, it's good to see them go back lol

daughter. She's 3 going on 30 and she's NON STOP. She's up at 5 and in bed, what ever time she falls a sleep. GEEZZZ! I would love to have her energy. I don't remember my first daughter being this bad, but that was 11 years ago. LOL Kim
