PAW - You got me thinking...

during our discussion about key lime pie and I went out and dug out some of the old familoy photo albums. I believe that the place was actually on Marathon, thanks, I had forgotten and for some reason thought it was on Duck Key, but it was Marathon. the Key West was always my favorite. I used to look forward to the mangrove swamps giving way to that beautiful blue of the lower Keys. We used to stay in a place on Eisenhower Blvd. The last time I was in Key West (1980's) that place had changed drastically and it just wasn't the same any more: I really missed the Conchs (the people not the shellfish). Thanks for stimulating some great memories

regards,
Charles

No kidding Brenda!

I love seafood and would have a hard time living away from the ocean. Here in Fort Bragg I get fresh dungenness crab right off the boats as well as Salmon and Albacore in season. The truly unfortunate thing is that in California it is very difficult to get really fresh seafood in a restaurant. The Department of Fish and Game requires that all fish get sold to a processor. So I resort to going down to the docks, buying it from those fishermen willing to sell direct and then preparing it myself. Gulf shrimp is the best. We can only get frozen shrimp from So. America. By the way do you like mushrooms? Black Chanterelles are in season here right now. with all of the rains we have had the mushrooms have been great this year. I had some wonderful Boletus Edulis (Boletes, Porcini, Steinpilz) and White and Yellow Chanterelles were excellent

Gulf seafood!!

I love it!! Gulf seafood IS the best! Here is a website to the best seafood market in Florida.
Joe Patti's is world famous. They ship overnight. They have the best of the best. I recommend the Royal Reds fresh Pensacola bay shrimp. You can't go wrong.

Re: Gulf seafood is the best except...

when I'm in Maine (Demillos and the Bridgeway in Casco Bay), around Chesapeke Bay (He crab and she crab soup), on Florida's Gold Coast (there's just too much tomention), Southern California (Crab Cooker in Newport), Bay Area (the Wharf or Scomas's, used to be Spanglers but after Spanky died so did the restaurant), The Captains Table in Brookings Or, and of course Eliotts Oyster House in Seattle (by the bay, near Pike Place Market) try their oyster sampler. Elliotts has oysters from arious parts of the bay and they actuall have different flavor attributes. I love it all: as the Andrews Sisters said "...give me some seafood mama" I believe that I just had breakfast vicariously but it just leaves me hungry for more!!! Oh and the little dive by the Columbia River with Quahogs, abalone from the rocks in Laguna Beach, chorros (I'm headed South to Mexico now) from the rocks most any place and on and on....... Happiness is eating my way around the world!

Best seafood ...

I'm hard pressed to list one place that has the "best" seafood. However, here are my three:

Gulf Shrimp (especially Pensacola Bay shrimp)

Maine Lobsters (cold water variety)

Maryland Crabcakes from one particular little seafood restaurant on the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City under the Summit Bridge.

I lived on Galveston island for 2 years when I was a little girl. That's where I fell in love with the Gulf & seafood and have never quite got over it!
Was in Key West for Mardi Gras last year, it's a very unique place! Seen some VERY interesting people! LOL! But, hey, it was Mardi Gras... I think everyone should experience at least 1 Key West sunset! There's nothing quite like it anywhere else i've ever been!
Now, with all this talk about seafood....I wonder what time Red Lobster opens? Not quite the same, but as close as I can get here! LOL!

Best Maine lobster (outside of Maine) is at the Lobster Boat on D.W. Highway in Merrimack, NH. (Or at my house, when I lived in Merrimack! Smiley)

I always order crabcakes for my out of town friends from crabcakesdirect.com. They are the best!!!! Made by hand when the order is placed and shipped overnight, big lumps of crabmeat with NO filler. They come from a liitle restaurant in Fenwick Island Delaware just over the state line from Ocean City Md.

Re: PAW etc...This thread has got to end

Love crabcakes and clamcakes, there was this really great little place next to my parents home on Pine Point in Scarborough, ME. It was called Ken's place and it had to have the best clamcakes ever. Crabcakes are the greatest, croquettes, and then..........
