Should I charge...
...a title company that called me to sign a doc that wasn't included with the original package when I did the initial signing on 12/22/05. Keeping in mind it wasn't my mistake. Also what's a reasonable fee for a signing of this nature that is only 5 mi. from me? I don't want to be unreasonable because I've built a good relationship with this company, but since it wasn't my mistake I don't think I should do it for free since I still have to travel and print docs.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Only 5 mis away....what a golden opportunity to be a hero. The value of future business created by the resulting good will is more than you could make off of charging them for this one, by far...

Similar thing happened with me today. I charged for the new signing. There was 3 pages to be signed and notarized. It was 3 miles one way. I charged $40. It wasn't a company I particularly like to deal with. They're not even one of my regulars.

Title Co's often pass on the costs of things like this to the lenders, esp. if it was the lender's mistake. If you can acertain whose error it was on their end, then don't be shy. My 2nd trip fee for other people's mistakes in this kind of circumstance is usually a flat $50.00. Chances are the money might not be coming out of the title co's pocket, and they expect to pay you.

I was thinking $50 would be reasoable and still save face with this company. I don't think they expected me to do it for free. I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks.

Since you say you've built a good relationship with this company, I wouldnt charge them. What's 5 miles anyways? Doesn't seem like a big deal. Don't forget about good Karma! Favors are always returned in mysterious ways.

Exactly my point...at some time in the future, you're going to need this TC/SS to cut you some slack...what comes around, goes around.
