Signing Experiences....

I swear we should all write a book. Over the past few years, I know i've compiled enough interesting stories to put one together... Here's a list of my top

10. Shot at while approaching the door to a signing, because the wife had just informed the husband she was cheating on him and was going to get her boyfriend. Husband thought I was the boyfriend. (no I didn't get shot...luckily neither did my car)

9. Signed in a loan for a truck driver hauling live pigs. He didn't want to sign in a truck stop, or in his cab, or standing outside his cab... he literally told me "The pigs make me feel safe" so we signed in the back with all 200 or so pigs running around us. Yuk.

8. Signed a loan for newly weds, just got back from vegas for a quick impromptu wedding. Everything was going great until we got to the Statement of Identity, and I asked about previous marriages.... Husband happily replied, nope its both our first time, we are super excited and happy. Wife, lowered her head, and said "I was married 3 times in the last 3 years"....Husband didn't know..... huge argument, signing never got completed (and I save that page for the last page now btw).

7. Closed a loan for a guy that kept asking if there was "anything" his 18-19yr old daughter could do, to help them get a lower rate.... kept asking her to flash me, implied other things.... I kept telling him no, and asked that he stopped.

6. Closed a loan in an urban area, while I was there some kids came home, and the mother asked her kids to go smoke their weed in the basement so she didn't get high while she was signing.

5. Closed a loan in Noble County, IN. Apparently the meth capital of the midwest. In the middle of the closing the door gets busted down, flash bangs go off, and cops rush in, handcuff everyone (including me), and bust the owners for a meth lab hidden in the backyard.
Despite my pleas of being the notary there to sign a refinance paperwork, I am detained for an hour and half while people are questioned, and they contact the lender who sent me. Probably my worst exerience.

4. The Exhibitionists.... Get there and someone is always naked. or Topless... Husband is clothed, wife is naked.... HS girls walking around in thongs and/or less. I swear these closings are people just baiting a Sexual Harrasment lawsuit or something. I just put my head down and look at the paperwork, then immediately inform the ss/lender/tc as i am always suspicious of them calling stating something happened.

3. Went to close a loan for a guy, his wife apparently didn't know anything about it, nor did she want to refinance....so she would not let me in the house. 1 Week later, the lender calls me to say they are closing in the office at 1pm....I show up, and the girl he brings with him is not the wife who shut me out of the house, nor does she have any ID. I wouldn't let them sign, obviously.

2. The bwrs who take their time even though you are there. I had a bwr come in and tell me he'll be just an minute.... he went and mowed the front and back lawn. I waited an hour, to even start the loan. It was a big loan size, and I had no other closings that day, so I waited patiently, but told the LO he owed me. hehe

1. The bwr's that can't stop watching TV. I closed a loan during some reality tv show...I think it was survivor.. and each bwr literally got up and ran to the other room to watch it, while I explained the next page to the husband/wife. The rotated which one was in the room. with me, and which one was standing half way out of the room watching the tv, so they could relay what they had just missed.... You gotta be kidding me.

Okay, my top 10...in particular order, just the way they came to me.

Good idea...We could all contribute and write a grand novel on a day in the life of a signing agent. We could get rich I tell ya!!!

I've been trying to get my business partner to write about being a flight attendant. I can not believe the things that happen....I laugh so hard at her stories. The SA stories pale next to some of the one's she experiences, although, some of the stories Shane mentions above makes me cringe.

I could add some great stories with regards to my 16 years in the Navy ;O)

Of the PG variety, of course!

In the last 2 1/2 years I can relate to all except #10. I have had guns pulled on me, but never shot at.
