Thanks to those recommending "The Signing Registry" Manual

Just a note of thanks for recommending the Signing Registry Manual. Just received it a couple of days ago, and you were all correct in saying it's the best around. Thanks again.

I placed my order for it today. I sent a money order by mail. How long did it take from the time you placed your order until you received it?

Hi Bonnie, thanks. I'm in Colorado Springs.

I'm really glad I discovered this board. I was trying to decide which course to take for loan signing training. At first I was very sure that I was going to buy Victoria Ring's book on starting a freelance NSA business. After a while I decided against it. Then it was a toss up between Just Point & Sign and the NNA course. But after reading all of the positive things on this site about the Signing Registry Manual, I decided to go with it. I think I made the right choice. Now I'm trying to decide which way I'll go for certification. Right now it looks like NNA, only because it seems to have more recognition. And I saw that SLB requires NNA certification of its agents. I agree with those who say that it's the experience that matters. But if you don't have experience, it pays to at least be certified. And I want to compensate for lack of experience by being as well trained as I can be. Still so many decisions to make.

Thanks Brenda. I saw the thread about CO Notaries getting together. I'd like to, but my schedule is so erratic right now. It's hard to plan anything. Someday.

I'm in Pueblo West.
Haven't read that book, but you are right about getting all the training you can until you are able to get some experience under your belt. Don't forget about marketing also!
Good Luck!

The SR Is First-Class

There's also nothing like their ZERO TOLERANCE message board because it's members only and you get exactly what you pay for: No bashing allowed and you MUST use your name which is linked to your profile. Remember that a board like this is FREE to lurk and GMN is FREE to lurk and post so if you can't take the heat here or there, join the SR! Worth every penny (I've been a Charter member since it's inception). GREAT ORGANIZATION

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly

If you really don't like the way things work here, perhaps the SR sight is for you. You post all over the board how you don't care for alias/anons and yet you continue to stay here. Which is it? If you find SR is so much better for you than just stay there.

By the way, saying that you are a charter member since inception is redundant. Charter members ARE from the inception.

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly-I can see

the point this person is trying to make. I'm not responding to get into a big debate, my response is simply an observation. I can see why it would seem that Kelly's contribution is mostly griping about the postings of this site. I did a search after reading the anon post and can see why it was even mentioned. I also have to wonder why those like Kelly who have such gripes are still here. Let's face it, most of us don't continue to be where we're not comfortable. If people don't like the way a place is run or the atmosphere, they usually don't keep coming back.

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly-I can see

Kelly was making an observation. Does not mean that she cannot be in or reap the benefits of another forum. Does not mean that she is not comfortable being here. It's just a personal statement from someone that like me, doesn't think the anon feature is neccesary to protect those that want to spew garbage.

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly-I can see, Charm

I, too, was simply making an observation. I have no personal issue with anyone on this board. Matter of fact, I rarely find something to post about that. Usually a more experience poster will say what needs to be said. I mostly watch, learn and listen. My point was that I can SEE why it would be believed that Kelly's contributions to the board lean more towards her disgust of anonymous postings. Yes, she does come across, as do a few others, like she is a candidate spewing change once elected. Is the reason her personal comment holds more weight than mine due to some friendship you share or is it simply because you recognize her posts more than mine?

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly-I can see, Charm

I completely agree with you Gina and I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees the fakeness and smarminess in Kelly's posts. I think comparing her to a politician is an excellent analogy.

FWIW, I do know somebody who has had a few dealings with her in real like and I was told that she is quite 2 faced and will backstab people in a heartbeat.

People like her and Dennis Broadbooks just need to stick to their hermetically sealed signing registry board if they have that much of a problem with the way this board is run. Or at the very least, shut the hell up about it on this board. To me a board like the SR sounds like it would be insufferably dry and stuffy, like the first class dining hall on the Titanic. I'd much rather be down below getting drunk and being flung around to fiddle music by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Re: The SR Is First-Class--Kelly-I can see, Charm

It doesn't appear that the post was anything more than an observation. We all make comments on the things we observe. In defense of Charm, I think she's just as fed up with the Anonymous posters maling snippy comments. I know I am. I have no problem with someone posting anonymously or with an alias. I do so myself. I do have a problem with those that are just doing so to be mean spirited. As for TSR, I am a member and usually on visit there once in a while. I like this board for the great information and bits of wisdom from those more experienced. And, I also love the casual friendliness of most of the posters. I don't do stuffy, that's why I rarely will be at TSR. And I don't care for comments just thrown to be mean, so for the most, I rarely will go over to GMN as there are 3 or 4 of the worst offenders there when it comes to meaness.

It's Really Creeeepy ...

... the way you gossip about me, CaliNotary, but never, ever reveal your identity. It's also such a turn-off that you feel you must use profanity in your posts to make your point. An intelligent person would never have to do that.

To be clear on my position regarding anon posters: I don't blame any of you due to the hostility from the likes CaliNotary! Heck, if I were new or afraid to be slammed, I'd post anon too. But in the case of "slams" and "gossip" and nasty / negative, plain ole mean posts, it makes no sense to place any value what-so-ever on those who hide. I doubt that anyone with half a brain cares what those who hide really think about me or anyone else, evident by the many, many emails I recieve (it's easy since I reveal who I am) about the sick attitude and angry posts you create.

My original post on this thread was not to say that boards like this or GMN are bad - my post was to support the SR. Their board is not dry and stuffy at all - but how would you know? You have so many opinions about so many topics you know nothing about. And as far as "your friend" who has such a strong opinion about me -- once again, who cares? That identity has not been revealed either. I'm surprised more by the fact you even have a friend.

If you want to gossip about me, CaliNotary, have some integrity and say who you are. And as for Dennis B, I don't know him and he doesn't know me. It's ignorant (so what's new for you>) or for anyone to think that just because we are SR members we know each other or agree all the time. Just ask Dennis (that would be easy because he is a real man and has some integrity as posts his identity and is definately not afraid of anyone disagreeing with him.

I admit, however, that posts like yours CaliNotary are sometimes entertaining -- many certainly wonder what makes a weirdo like you tick.

I was born and raised in the city, near Cook County jail and the canal, off 31st and California street. Later family moved me to Gage Park (55th & Western) during the racial crap with the H.S...and later on my own moved to the S.W. suburb of Orland Pk, got married and moved to Palos Park. Everyone is now in Orland and Palos, nobody left in 'Chicago' except for friends downtown on State St.
And you're welcome on the resume help. Smiley

Val, I only joined the Registry this year. So far, I haven't had calls from anyone saying they got my name from the SR. But, I do get lots of calls from those saying they got my name for NNA or from Notary Rotary. But, I'm sure I will get calls from SR. Seems like a really professional setup to me.

Re: Val/NH re SR Manual

I could be wrong, but I think that there is a misconception about the SigningRegistry as far as getting work. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!

There is a database kept of the agents who are members of the signing registry. However, when I joined somehow I knew that the SR provided >resources< for marketing but the registry was not necessarily going to market the membership or the database as part of the membership benefits. It is up to the members of the SR to market themselves.

One of the resources of the SR is the database of title companies, et al who would like to hear from SR members. You have to be proactive in that respect and use the list to market to.

I have gotten work from being a member of the SR but it's more common that I get work from NR or 123, or from my own website. The work I have picked up from being an SR member has been quality companies.

Thanks to both Brendas (TX and CO) for your responses. The Signing Registry seems like a worthwhile company and I do plan on joining. I have gotten calls from SSs that saw my profile on 123 and NR and was just wondering if I might expect the same from SR as an added benefit.

To Val/NH

I was a charter member of SR.

I did not renew as I did not receive any business from the group. I know others have said they network with each other, but I already have a business reliable business partners. I felt the SR was helping to add more competition to my territory. The message board was and am certain, is still very polite. The owner is a great person.

I was just honest enough to realize the mission of the SR was not my mission.

If you are new to the business, you may very well enjoy what they have to offer, but most go to the SR for education and support.

Thanks, Julie. I appreciate the info. I am relatively new to the business (started last year) and have been getting calls on a pretty regular basis (I think mostly from the NSA section of NNA) but am always looking for ways to get more business. I want to get a few more signings under my belt before I start marketing to Title/Escrow companies.
