To Sherry @ SLB
Hi Sherry, I had signed-up with your co. some time ago and when I did I noticed that you will only use SA's with HP printers. I spoke with someone with your co. and said for me to send on my info. anyway, mainly because I have a Brother MFC 8440. "Send on your info. and we'll see" Just wondering if your policy still stands. I understood the reason was too many people have diff. kinds of printers and you like to stick with HP. I was wondering if this still holds true? Just curious. Thank you in advance.

Obviously I have to post anonymously. I and another notary I know both do loans for Sherry. Neither of us own an HP. I have a brother and she has a lexmark. We just told the white lie when we signed up last year. No one's been the wiser. I thought it was silly to not take work when I just owned a different printer brand. The reason it went this way was because I was a last minute call and then signed up. So I told my friend. We have gotten no complaints.

Thank you for your response. I can understand people using crummy printers, but mine is brand new and thought perhaps she may have loosened the reigns. I also understand her point of view or atleast the policy. She has a biz to run and doesn't want printers problems to deal with.

It isnt about reigns..it has to do with printer incompatability. If I assign you to do a closing and when you go to print the docs from Dynamicdox (lets say an hour before the closing) and you cant print, than I am left scrambling to find someone to close the loan. If I CAN find someone, than they end up being late and I than I am at risk for losing clients. There have been probably over 40 times that this has happened and out of those 40 times, 38 of those have been Brother Printers. Thats our only reasoning for that

That's what I figured. I realize your position and if I were in yours, I probably do the same. Curiosity got the better of me. It's great to be able to get your perspective. Thank you and good luck. Maybe we will cross paths.

Re: PCL6 its the only accepted printer regardless of the bra
In reality, there are very few vendors providing PCL5 or PCL6 restricted document files. Most are generated at the PCL4 level, so theoretically, any printer supporting PCL4 and above should be able to handle 90% of the work. However, when HP released PCL5e (the "e" meaning enhanced), that became a standard that has lasted for a very long time. There are some companies that make the minimum PCL level of compatibility PCL5e. Therefore, I submit that if your printer is at least PCL5e compliant, then you should be able to handle 99.99999% (if not more) of the files currently being made.
From a functionality view, there is no difference between PCL5e and PCL6 (so says HP). The only difference being the language used. In actuality, many users, including myself, have found that using a PCL5e driver instead of the PCL6 driver actually works better and faster. So, until such time as PCL6 has been around for a long time and vendors have adopted it as the PCL level minimum, I would feel safe is saying that using a printer that either supports PCL5e natively (HP products only) or with compatible drivers and hardware, there should be no problems printing anything.
For further reading on PCL, I suggest viewing msg #45465 or msg #32419 (they're both the same).

Sherry,
I have a Brother MFC 8840D, have pcl6, duplexing even, use dynamic docs ALL the time, I think daily in fact and don't see what Brother has to do with it? There are numerous printers that don't have pcl6 and mine does and I have NEVER had a problem printing docs. I have a HP printer also and a commercial 4 drawer that has from 8.5x11 to 8.5x14 to 11x14 paper in it and pcl6, should I not qualify if I prefer to use the brother machine since it cost me less to use?

If you read above, I am just saying that from MY PERSONAL experience, we have come across more problems with BROTHERS (not PCL 6 compatible) than any other.

I have never had any trouble with Dynamicdox printing on my brother. And, as far as that goes, I have dowloaded from Swiftview, Magic Docs, elynx, etc. and never had any trouble with them. Just offering information.

I have the Brother HL 5140 (Pcl 6 emulated) and have only had trouble with one program (MRG). They seem to have quite a few that cannot use this program, but they were able to convert to pdf and resend to me. If I remember what PAW said, it was because HP owns the Pcl driver program, and Brother can only emulate it. Some programs require a Pcl compliant printer, and will not work with an emulation. How'd I do, Paul?

You did just fine. However, I would bet that there was something wrong with the file, not that it was made to be HP printer (native PCL) specific. The terms "compliant" and "compatibility" are subjective at best. There are features specific to HP printers that could be introduced into a document file, but the chances of that happening within our industry is probably minuscule if it exists at all.

It really is not about what type of printer you have it has to do with PCL. We have run across a lot of people (with mostly Brother printers) that do not have enough PCL to print the packages that are downloaded from some of the sites...Also Brothers used to have compatability problems with some of the sites (ie...Dynamidox).

Thank you for answering my question. The last four edocs I have done has been with Dynamidox and I have had no problem. The Brother MFC 8440 has been great for me and I have had not one computer problem. Maybe a brain freeze for me now and then, but thats it. Thanks again.

Sherry I have a brother printer as well. I have had no problems printing any of the docs with it. I have printed from dynamicdocs with no problems. I would love to sign up with your company but have not the required two years yet. LOL It also helps to have a computer geek living with me. LOL

That is PCL 6 Compatible so you would not have a problem with that one...I think you guys need to read the printer drop down on our website a little better. There are SPECIFIC BROTHER PRINTERS that have this problem NOT ALL......

I am sorry Sherry I did not mean to bash you or make you feel that I am bashing you. Please take no offense. From my standpoint there is alwasy something new to learn and a friendly discussion is the way to go alot of times. I have learned alot on this board and the PCL thing was new to me. It is a topic of interest to me. Since I am trying to learn to fix my own problems so I am not calling my hubby everytime the computer acts up. (Yes computers are female and have their pms days as well. In my house, at least, they are all tempermental if not paid a little attention by my hubby.)

Ok I understand what you are saying about pcl 6. Mine is pcl 6 compatible maybe that is why I have had no issues with it. I have the MFC 8820D.
