Shirt and Tie always, sets me apart from a lot of the other closers in the area, who find it okay to close in jeans and a polo or tshirt.

Its a professional business, I figure dress professionally...whether it be a monday, a friday, a saturday etc.

Business always when doing a signing. We are professionals and should dress as professionals. IMO

That's a great question! In Chicago, I always and everyone else always wore biz clothing. When I moved down here, I learned about 'casual Fridays'. My Hubby wears biz casual all week and Friday he wears jeans and gym shoes. I never heard of this before living in the south. I still wear biz clothing on Fridays because that is what companies require. I'd hate to have a borrower tell the SS or TC, yeah...she showed up in jeans and a hippie white gauze shirt with red beads and moccasins! Smiley

I always wear a bus. suit. Yesterday, I had someone suggest I wear casual on Fridays as it's acceptable. I asked this person what she suggested and her reply was khaki's and a cute blouse or sweater. I'm wondering how others feel about this.

Re: What do you wear on Fridays? Lily

I never wear a suit, don't need to. I wear slacks, khakis, or a skirt with sweaters or blouses. etc. In the summer, I wear my milkmaid dresses and sandals. As long as it's not jeans, I feel I'm ok. This is not a business whre we need to be in a suit behind a desk at a bank, we are traveling to people's homes and they most always are in their comfys. I've never had one complaint for not looking like a CPA

Charm that is how I dress to do a signing. I feel that if I am not comfortable then how can the borrowers be comfortable. I look nice and business like. And act professionally.

it's a long flowing dress, lot's of indian styles, usually sleeveless. They come down to mid calf and are very comfortable.

Ok, this is just an example

I'd pick the one in the top right hand corner. There are many types that can be found by shopping the malls or trade shows which is where I've picked up most of my collection. Average anywhere from 25 - 50 bucks a shot

hey just buy the effortless style. They come with a high waist tie back in the back. I wore mine thru maternity times and tightened them up when I got back to a 6. Many compliments thru the years and the colors are soft with these dresses.

Dress code

Ok, I have to say that Charm's dress in my area (NW Arkansas, Wal*Martianville) is professional both at work and at a signing. I work in a legal dept. for a corporation that employees 600+ people. Our attire is business casual M-Thursday with jeans on Friday. Wally World (Wal*Mart), Sam's Club and most of the other corps around here have the same dress code.

I would never wear shorts, tanks or flip-flops to a signing. Nice pants, nice shirt and professional personality. The personality, confidence and character will be remembered beyond the clothes.

I actually had a TC request that I dress down and NOT wear a necktie. Their thought was the bwrs would feel more at ease with an SA that didn't have the appearance of authority. I always wear nice dress slacks and a dressy polo shirt. Works for me !

"Business Casual" 24/7.

I define "business casual" as a collared shirt (button-down dress shirt without a neck tie in fall/winter/spring and polo shirt in summer) with Docker-type pants, sometimes dressier, year round. I NEVER wear any kind of t-shirt of jeans. I will consider wearing a tie and even a suit jacket if I am going to a bank branch or a law office.

This is a very individual question as customs vary around the country. Even in Manhattan, I see this biz casual mode of dress very commonly.

In the final analysis, I think you need to dress in the manner that you feel most appropriate for you. I personally feeling wearing a suit and tie to a borrowers home is overkill and puts people off.

I would love to wear black or dark blue jeans with a nice sweater and have entertained the idea many times. In fact I think that untill some of the ss out there stop lowballing (or simply close thier doors) they are in no possition to even suggest what is appropriate. For 50 (which I will never accept) a signing we should wear t-shirts, cutt offs, flip-flops, and consider deoderant an optional accessory. Inevitablly I pull out the black slacks and put them on and say to myself "well it was fun to dream". One thing you wont find me in is heels. I'll wear a nice pair of cluncky black dress shoes.

Those dresses don't look very professional. They do look like my grandmother's moo-moo's. Are you sure this is the thing to be wearing on a professional appointment?

Re: What do you wear on Fridays? Charm's dresses

My dress depends on the location, If I am going to a place of business or a home in town, I more than likely will dust off the suit, I will wear slacks and a nice shirt if going to a rural location and this is why....

My third job ever was in a very rural location and I got extremely lost, I was of course, wearing a navy blue suit complete with hose (in the middle of summer, of course!) My cell wouldnt get reception and every place I stopped at and asked for directions to the house (never once referring to borrower's names) they would say "what you got business with "Mr. Doe" for??" no one would help, one man said he wasnt about to help me serve papers or whatever evil legal thing I was doing to his friends. It was very frustrating and when I finally got to the borrowers house, I relayed the story over ice tea and they both laughed and said they knew how to find me (they found me at the corner store (that was the name, lol) b/c they had received many calls about the lawyer huntin 'em down....geesh!

Re: What do you wear on Fridays?

business casual is always acceptable here in the city that never sleeps. There was a time when you dressed up (men in suits or tuxes and ladies in long gowns) to go see the shows, but now..."anything goes"...Since a signing here can be literally anytime, I just wear slacks (ala Hagar) and a button down or polo shirt. Of course, I am still waiting for the right occasion to wear my kilts to a signing...would make me "stand out" (not only am I the "signing" doc, but I'm also the "Singing" doc)...occasionally belt out in song (if the situation calls for it)

I usually wear jeans and a collared shirt. I know there are people on here who would rather go naked than wear a pair of jeans to a signing, but here in LA they are VERY normal office attire, even in most of the title companies and finance offices I've been to. I've never once received a comment about it, and I sure as heck ain't gonna break out a suit and tie just to do a 45 minute signing sitting at someone's kitchen table.

Live on the edge SarahBeth. Wear the jeans.

Cali - I'm breaking my personal rule about emoting 'on board' ... I just adore you! If you came in pill form, I'd take twice daily. I need to 'lighten up' and live on the edge more.

I hate Talbot's. I hate 'dry clean only' and I detest wool! I never want my toes in a pair of black pumps EVER. I'm reading this thread and realizing - I dress 'better' NOW than I EVER did INSIDE the corp. world, and I don't even know why. I feel guilty when I wear sweater/slacks when the snow's flying, because I'm wound up so tight that I worry I might get stranded and have to walk. I have a problem, don't I. (Rhetorical!)

S I G H. I need to ease up on my poor little self. Thanks for your always-refreshing perspectives. You are the UN-Cola of the NSA world, and one of those little 'Kodak Moments' to my day.

Thanks Renee, that is too kind of you to say. I do like being able to give a different point of view on things. Food for thought is always a good thing, it's too boring when everyone thinks alike.

Half of my dress sense comes from pure laziness. I probably break out my iron 2 or 3 times a year. I'm just good at picking out clothes that can go from dryer to hanger and look fine. I had one job where I had to wear a shirt and tie just to sit in an office all day (which hardly ever had visitors) and I hated it with a passion.

I guess I'm lucky to live in Los Angeles. We can definitely get away with more casual workwear than a lot of the country can. Maybe one of these days I'll break out the buttless chaps and leather vest, stick my official notary badge on it and do some signings. If it was good enough for the Village People it's good enough for me!
