Wondering about the notary seal embosser,
Do any/many of you use it? My comission renewal is coming up and I've been considering the type of seals to purchase and how many. I currently have a large seal which at times is hard to fit in the allowed space . I also have an embosser, I tried using it once and I cut small holes through the paper and never tried it again.

Although Colorado can use either an embosser or seal, most companies prefer the seal. However, on a loose ack. I use the seal and then use my embosser when attaching a loose ack. to the page it belongs with.

Have you embossed the DOT/Mortgage? Thats usually 10 pp + ( from what I've seen).

I always order two stamps from Notary Rotary. One large and one compact as a backup, and for those tight areas where there is little room.
I also use the embosser if I need to attach a loose certificate. Especially on the DOT. I only emboss the signature page and the acknowledgement page, so that the Recorder will know that they go together and someone will not attempt to attach the loose certificate to another document.
If you do not have a lot of strength in your hands, I recommend the desk model vs the handheld model. It is a lot easier to press down than squeeze.

Thanks Brad, I do have bad carpal problems. I am going to consider the desk model.

Your welcome. The desk model will definitely be the way to go for you. It is larger, but will save you the grief.

The only time I use my embosser is with a loose ack. I use my stamp on the actual loose ack. and then use my embosser to attach *only* the loose ack. with the original ack. page. The reason I use the loose ack. is because there wasn't room for my stamp, I messed up the seal, etc. On the original ack. page, I write *see attached* and on the loose ack. I indicate the name of the doc. it is being attached. I don't emboss every page of the doc. together. It doesn't matter what type of document it is that I'm attaching/embossing the loose ack.

Question about embossing the attachment. Doesn't the seal then get embossed onto a form that does not have notarial wording, which if it were a rubber stamp it would be illegal? I've never done it so I'm wondering myself. I normally write in a description of the form I am notarizing along with the pertinent information, ie. DOT for 123 Easy St.

It's a good question, I may be wrong but unless you are inking the embossed seal it would not be acceptable by itself because CA law states that the seal has to be photoghrapically reproduced. I think it is used as a safety measure or often to make a document look more official ( along with the regular seal).

Jenny is correct. The embosser is only a safety measure. It can not be used in place of an ink seal. That is why you can use it to connect the signature page and acknowledgement page.
