"It never rains in Southern California...

unless the Texas Longhorns come to town and rain on everybody's tan lines.

Dennis, where are you when I feel the need to gloat?

Vince Young may not be God, but Vince certainly sits on His right hand. Vince Young owns the Rose Ball.

The only thing wrong with UT's victory in the National Championship game is that now, every hick college on the Left Coast -- institutions like USC, and UCLA, and Stanford -- will be recruiting in Texas. We're not going to be able to go to the 7/Eleven without stepping on a couple of SoCallows. Before you know it, even more cappuccino boysenberry latte slurping CalWimps will be looking to move to Texas. It's enough to make a grown man cry through the smiles tonight.

My poor Caligirl soon to be Texan heart is stumped on this one. It will be hard to be a Texan and have to admit that I couldn't care less about football. And it will be a cold day in heck before I root for the Rangers over the Angels. For the record we were looking into a possible transfer BEFORE the game so you can't lump me into the group of ex-CA/posingasanAggiebunchofwannabe's. I will quickly adopt the accent (I lived in LA when learning to talk), but not the country music or cowboy boots. Yet I will gladly choose Sonic over Starbucks anyday.

You'll learn to love the Rangers, enjoy Whataburger (pronounced waterburger by most Texans & Okies) better burgers than Sonic but can't touch Sonic's Ice Cream and desserts , and my gosh the springtime weather!!! As my son is found of saying, "Once a Texan - always a Texan" Oh yeah, and to get along, learn to like football or at least fake it by hanging one of those cheesy "Cowboy Fan On Board" signs from your rear window. When I lived there in the early 90's I had a truck with a 49ers sticker and a OU sticker on my back window. Bad idea....very bad idea.

I'm Right Here...

...and you've been granted the right to gloat away to your heart's content. I didn't stay up to watch the whole game, but it must have been a fantastic finish. Texas & Vince Young are most deserving of the title.

Referencing back to your prognosticating abilities, Hugh...you know the old saw. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now & then.

Re: "It never rains in Southern...First, the Parade.....

Now this. Sigh.

Actually, I'm secretly pleased USC lost. I have some in-law's who graduated from SC. They act as though they are just a bit higher species than the rest of us. It makes me happy to see their 'identity', SC lose a game, makes them human...for a day or two.

Re: "It never rains in Southern...First, the Parade.....

I know some SC grads, too, including some cousins, so I know what you mean. (Not all of them are like that, though.) I gotta admit it was a pretty exciting game - at least what I heard of it. I was trying to listen to the last 3+ minutes on the clock while returning from a signing appointment. Unfortunately, the only radio station where I found the game being broadcast was in Spanish! That was interesting! (I've never before gotten around to learning "futbol Americano" vocabulary in Spanish. ;>))

Re: the parade: I've long felt that someone long ago made a pact with the devil for it not to rain on New Year's day - and in fact it was beautiful out that day. (Kinda like today, but not as warm...) Unfortunately the idiots that changed the date for the parade (and game) this year must not have read the fine print! Maybe all the rain will discourage a few people from moving here because of the weather?!

BTW, Hugh, I think all you Texans were doomed for an invasion of so-called "left-coast" folks before the Rose Bowl game... I've been seeing more and more purchases the last few months by Californians for Texas properties! Lots of them, however, were just for investment purposes by people who wouldn't really want to live there, so you might get lucky... ;>)
