Veronica,

If you call Brother at 800/284-4329 they will be able to walk you thru the set-up. Also, check the shipping box it came in, that should have the directions also.

Oops! Almost forgot , on some Brothers' the (auto select) doesn't work. Brother will be able to tell you if that's the case with your unit.

Veronica
I have a Brother HL5150DLT and how I set it up for auto select was:
Go to control panel
Select Printers & Fax
Choose your printer by clicking on it - then Right click
Choose Properties
Choose Accessories
Toward the bottom is a box that is labeled "Default Source" choose the "Auto Select" choice

Yours may be different - but it is a possibility.

I have the same model and added the optional tray. I had to do the same as Elva_oh suggested. Mine still did not work properly. I finally realized that I did not have an updated version to read PDF files, so my printer would not auto select. Now, everything works perfectly.

I have it all the way to choose properties but there is no option for choose accessories. Was able to choose the auto select from another button but still printing legal page as letter.

thanks

When the print menu comes up for the pdf file did you click the choose paper soucer by PDF size? because if you didn't it will not print from the correct trays.

Veronica, I followed the same type of instructions as Elva when I bought mine. However, you need to add the 2nd tray before you use paper source or default source. Make sure you choose auto select as the paper source once you add the tray. I hope this helps.

To update the PDF reader you can go to the Adobe website

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html#Readers

this will give you the most updated version. The version that I had been using did not have the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option. Everytime someone would post about this 2nd printer tray, they would mention this option. When this box is clicked on, the printer will auto select for you. I kept looking and finally realized that my Adobe verison did not have that option on it. One other thing, make sure you also designate what tray is letter or legal on the printer. I couldn't find it right off hand in my user guide, but it's in there somewhere (sorry) . It will ask you to choose letter or legal for tray 1 and 2.
