to all the new *wannabes*

The ones of us who post regularly can always tell when the NNA has gone through town, because handfuls of Anonymous posters begin posting *how do I do this* and *how do I do that questions* --

1. to get the best and most helpful advice, the ones of you who post some sort of handle and a state designation will find you will get a lot more help than simply posting as an anon;

2. if you post a question and don't get an instant response, it is NOT necessary to repost the same question 15 minutes later or post another message "is someone going to help me?";

3. answers to many of the questions you ask, can be found by clicking on the orange "Search" button at the top of the screen;

4. anyone posting on an open forum, whether here, or someplace else, always opens themselves up to several different types of responses -- straight-forward answers (which have been referred to as reality checks); and the cheerleader *rah rah you go* answers -- which may pump you up, but if you don't know your state notary laws forward and back, these types of posts will only burn you in the end;

5. when your feelings get hurt, you will find many newbies to console you and tell you how mean and rude some of us are, but just ask yourself if you want to feel better from a person not even willing to post other than using Anon, or if you want to actually be told the correct answer from a mean and rude person willing to use some sort of identity, so we can be blasted by you and others later who didn't like our answer, because you didn't get the answer you felt you deserved;

6. copping an attitude isn't going to get you much from the people you actually need to hear the answer from;

7. research and do your homework before posting;

8. and lastly, the mean and rude people have been around for quite some time (you are not going to run us off) -- unlike the Anons who blow in and sometimes out as quickly as they came, because they found that the NNA's "get rich quick" career just isn't happening the way the class said it would. You aren't the first nor the last to call us mean and rude!

Re: Great post, but.....

We all know nothing is going to change. The world is full of people who are expecting someting for nothing, so why should this board be any different? They don't realize that nobody is going to hand them something out of the goodness of their heart when they had to work like crazy to get to where we are in the first place.
Criticize away! Us "oldster" notaries have a lot of good advice to give but will not give away ALL the secrets just because you ask. Maybe we can steer you in the right direction but don't expect anyone to hand it to you. This is not meant to say don't ask a question, but as CarolynCO said, do your homework. Know your state's laws, know your documents and for goodness sake, use the search button, get a mentor. These things can't be stressed enough.
Nobody came into this profession knowing everything, but try to exhaust all methods of searching for the answers before you ask what others see as stupid questions.
If you feel that someone was rude to you, you need to get thicker skin. Most of the time it is constructive criticism or a wake up call to reality. If that offends you, than you're going to have a lot of trouble no matter what you try to do. Criticism can sometimes be turned into a good thing if you let it.
No one is going to hold you hand and walk you though every question or every signing. LEARN, LEARN, LEARN then ask if you don't know!
And PLEASE, stop posting under "Anonymous". Because of certain "rude" anonymous posters, nobody has much respect for them. Those posts are almost always annoying, and not too many people read them any more.

There always come something good/positive in any bad situation if you take the time to think deeper.

Re: Great post, but.....

Even though my intention of this thread was to be serious, there has been a lot of joking. However, it doesn't change the seriousness of getting thicker skin if your feelings get hurt by something someone said -- if you can't handle it here, how do you expect to handle a few of the irate borrowers, who through no fault of your own, use you as their pig in slaughter. When a borrower asks you something you don't know the answer to, are you going to whip out your WiFi laptop and post the question here?--or are you going to tell them that they aren't allowed to ask questions?

There are many basic questions that the poster should already know the answer to. It's obvious that there are also posters who haven't the slightest idea of what they are doing, and have no business going to a borrowers house until they get a handle on what they are doing. If someone hurts your feelings by telling you that you aren't ready to go out, it's not meant to be taken personally -- it's simply meant that you need to know your state's rules forward and backward and that you need to know everything thre is to be known about the documents--and that doesn't necessarily mean to take the easy way out and post the question here.

I won't simply hand people their answers wrapped in a pretty red bow on a silver platter. The new SAs mentality is "I expect and deserve my answers to be answered." You haven't earned the respect of demanding anything from anyone -- regulars or any other newbie wannabe. May be if some of you got off your all mighty high horse and read/researched more before writing the attitude posts, you would be able to answer your own questions and not have the need to write about the rudeness of the board. No one here is obligated to answer any of your questions.

Re: Great post, but.....

I completely agree Carolyn. I called a closer the other day for a signing and if she was covered such and such county. She asked what a county was. I seriously wanted to put my hand through the phone and ask her what was the last grade she completed.

After a long day, what a perfect way to end it! You guys

and gals had me spewing juice (to late for coffee) at my monitor again! Thank goodness I covered my keyboard this time. and to CarolineCo - My kids used to tell me, I was a big meanie monster, when I wouldn't let them get away with whatever they were trying to get away with at the time. Well they've all grown up to be good, strong, responsible people. So all you "big meanie monsters" should wear the title with pride. Hopefully baby notaries will GROW UP and be good responsible notaries.

OH MY GOD...

I just read this post. I swear, when i win the jackpot at the local casino, I'm flying you all up here to the great state with 10,000 lakes, we're renting a huge resort and parting all weekend cuz you guys almost made me pee. Charm...you funny lady! (i meant to say it that way) Smiley
I tell ya, who was booking that cruise for all of us, we gotta go. I think i'd lose a few pounds a day since I'd be laughing so hard that my cheeks would hurt and I don't think I could eat anything. i'd be afraid of having my drink come through my nose when i walk in the bar and Charm is on stage tearing it up!!!
