Alabama HB190 by Rep. Hill - Prohibits Notaries.....
Heads up Alabama Notaries, the House passed a bill in March '06 that states "A notary public shall not use his or her seal and authority to witness the signature of a member of his or her immediate family.....parent, spouse, child, stepchild, stepparent, stepbrothers, stepsisters, grandchild, grandparent, or sibling". This bill is now waiting for Governor Riley's approval. I wish I could get Representative Hill to pass a bill to increase notary fees! While we knew notarizing a family member's signature wasn't ideal and shouldn't be done if you could benefit in some shape or form...it may soon be illegal.
