had this problem with a Countrywide Full Spectrum Home Loan...(this was after I faxed back the required documents)...they called the SS and advised that I would have to return to the borrowers and get them to RESIGN the requested documents...The SS and I could BOTH read the dates clearly (to be honest, they were a little hard to decipher but the borrower was in mid 80s). I was paid for a second trip although...

First Barbara, please read the "Rules & Guidelines" at the top for posting in CAP letters.
To answer your question, instead of telling borrowers to write legibly repeatetly I just say out loud the actual date before they start writing. It's a psychology thing.
Hope it help the next time.

You should really try to break yourself of that habit.

Re: Borrowers' dates
After warning the borrower(s) twice and having them re-do the dates (or anything else), I stop the signing cold at the third misbehavior. I ask them if they want the loan to fund on time. That usually gets the undivided attention of everyone present. I explain, patiently, that if they continue to ignore instructions that the loan will not fund and the documents will have to be redrawn. That has never failed.
Please note that I'm not talking about a simple mistake, or even a couple of minor mistakes. I specifically mean repeated willful disregard for pleasant (but explicit) guidance.
