Cost of dedicated fax line
I have a dedicated fax line through BellSouth that I am trying to get down to a "bare bones" cost. The line currently totals $22.59/month, of which $5.95 is for "Inside Wire Maintenance Service Plan".
I am trying to decide if I should cancel that item and am curious as to the opinions of others as to whether or not I should.

Look into vonage. You can get your house line and fax line through them, as long as you have high speed internet.

EFax Free with an area code way out of your area. $12.95 per month with a local area code. You can fax from it or receive a fax anywhere in the world you have online access.

This is just like signing up for extended warranties and service plans - it's insurance. How likely are your inside telephone wires to require repair? Would it be a financial hardship for you to pay the phone company to come and fix it if so? Insurance is designed to provide a safety net in case of unforeseen expenses you can't afford. Personally, I would drop the service plan and put your $5.95 a month into a bank account - then you can spend it on the repair guy IF ever needed.
Another question to ask yourself is whether you need a dedicated fax line at all - perhaps you could fax through your computer.
