I hope I did it right. I didn't have my workbook with me so I played it by hear. Should I sign the document as well as stamp it with me notary stamp? I only stamped it and followed the instruction in my journal. Feeling a little worried I did something wrong. Please someone comfirm with me did I mess up.

You do have to sign the document in the notarial certificate confirming that the signer signed the document or acknowledged his/her signature before you, then you apply your stamp.

Yup, you messed up. Every state requires that a notary sign the document; most also require a seal. Did you take a class and pass an exam? I thought California notaries had to do that. (Note that this requirement only applies to human notaries; trolls are excused from this requirement.)

Re: Barbara

The question "do you sign the acknowledgemement" is a basic notary question. You should not be notarizing anything until you understand the proper procedure!

Thank you, I called my friend and let him know to bring it back so I can fix it.

I suggest you DONOT notarize anything else until you read your handbook several more times front or back! That is a totally basic question that you would have learned in the first few pages.

Aside from the fact that any brand new notary should already know the answer to this question, wouldn't common sense tell you that it needs to be completed and signed just from looking at the acknowledgement?

Barbara this is NOT your fault that you don't know how to complete an Acknowledgment.

Where did you recieve your 6 hour notary training prior to your notary exam?

It is impossible for me to believe ...

... that the original poster is really a notary posting a real question. This HAS to be somebody's idea of a joke.

Our collective legs are being pulled, folks. Nobody with a California notary Commission could be THAT stupid.

Re: It is impossible for me to believe ...

Believe it Ernest, I had to have something notarized so I asked a co-worker to do it for me. She stamped her stamp on it and handed it back to me........... I then handed it back to her and asked her to sign it. Believe it.

Cali...

hit enter too soon...I can't believe you responded with exactly what I was thinking each time as I was reading through the thread...can't believe it took 6 responses before someone used some common sense. Too funny!

Poster did her very first acknowledge -- it's called an AcknolwledgeMENT -- I suppose she just got her notary, too...you know, in some states doing something where you clearly don't have a clue about how to do it is UPL!!

I sincerely hope you're not taking on any loan packages...

Does it really matter where she received her instruction? She obviously didn't listen to it.
