Help! what do I do now?
Had a signing last night and when I got to my first notarization, (having forgotten to take out my stamp) I discovered that my stamp was not in my briefcase. Not a problem right, WRONG (I explained to the borrowers that I would stamp where necessary when I got home) I can't find my stamp.
I have a closing Sunday, and I am going to try and contact the SS and let them know that I can't do it. But, what do I do about last night?

A. See if you can get one made REAL quick (yellow pages) B. Check your state's laws. Some states permit a hand drawn stamp with all of the info contained on the stamp.
Fess up to who hired you C.If lender has stamped stuff on hand by Tues, they should still be able to fund. good luck

Carole, Michigan DOES NOT REQUIRE A STAMP, so why are you acting like our Michigan legislature adoped California's over the top notarial laws?
In 6 years, I NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER bring my stamp. I only sign my name at the closing.
I have to admit, I have no clue where your concerns are, why you cannot do the Sunday closing without your stamp (you can go to one of the bigger office places and they can make you one on the spot, been there done that before) and why you are explaining your stamping procedures to the borrower?
Follow your state's laws Carole, not another state's law nor NNA's advice.

half correct. Not bad without being familiar w/ MI notary law. I did give my suggestion kind of fast, though. You might say that it was "halffast" Have a great weekend

A Stamp / Inking Seal is NOT required by Michigan Law.
You can write the appropriate wording (depending on if it is a jurat or acknowledgment). If you need help with the appropriate wording, let me know.

For those who have this experience in states requiring seal
This happened to me....sorta. My stamp broke during an appt. The good news? Office Depot can make a stamp in about an hour or so. (Keep a copy of your commmission in your briefcase) Lesson learned for me:I now have 2 stamps on hand. Saved my bee-hind!

Since the initial panic, I went to the MI SOS site and checked (should have done that first) I just followed MCL 55.287 and made my own notary electronic imprint (so to speak)

To answer your questions, I made a notary block, like I used before I retire as a Legal Secretary, and because it looks a better then my printing.

Just wondered what you meant by electronic imprint. So now you have a bunch of loose jurats and acknowledgements, if I understand you correctly.
The problem, Carole, is that even though we do not need a seal, if you send the docs back without the seal, the title company/lender is going to have a heart attack. I would recommend you go to the office place office max/depot/staples and get the stamp made so you can stamp the docs for the previous closing and for tomorrow's closing.
These companies do no keep track of what is required for notary stuff in all 50 states.
Your initial message was confusing to me as I took it as that you thought the stamp had to be done at the time of the closing.
