Mylar Maps
I was asked to notararize a map that my stamp (ink) will not work on. I was told there was a special pen that can be used (the client has this) and I can write the information on the map instead of stamping. Has anyone had any experiences with this?

Don't know if you are going to use an ack or jurat, but this is what the loose certificates are for, just be sure to write the description of the document so it can't be attatched to anything else.
Why do they need a map notarized?

Here's the appropriate section covering this, as found in the SOS handbook:
The law allows a condition under which a notary public may authenticate an official act without using an official notary public seal. Because subdivision maps are usually drawn on a material that will not accept standard stamp pad ink and other acceptable inks are not as readily available, acknowledgments for California subdivision map certificates may be notarized without the official seal. The notary public’s name, the county of the notary public’s principal place of business, and the commission expiration date must be typed or printed below or immediately adjacent to the notary public’s signature on the acknowledgment. (Government Code section 66436(c))

Re: Can use Ultimate™ Ink
If you expect to notarize a lot of "non-paper" items, Ultimate™ Ink is guaranteed to stamp on just about anything. You can order it here: http://www.enotary.org/products/stamps-inks.shtml (for ink pads only).
I didn't see it in NotRot's store.

Get a piece of fine sand paper. Roughen the area....
and then sign and stamp on the rough spot Emery board may work also. Should work.

Mylar Maps are the only exception to Govt code section 8207. See Govt Code 6646.
The signer will sign and then give you the Sharpee to complete the Acknowledgment. Let's hope the Ack under plastic is 2006 compliant!

Janine, read John/NorCal and Joe's response only!
You must never, ever stamp a mylar subdivision map. ONLY those two posters gave you the correct information, and it is correct.

thank you. I did have another question. When I had the buyers sign my book, I did not fingerprint them. I don't think I had to but wanted to double check.
