No... You CANNOT have my job!
I get so darn frustrated by borrowers (usually the ones who live in houses you can't even find the kitchen table) who tell me, "I'd LOVE to do what you do, and how can I get started?" I've thought and thought of a good comeback line, ("I'm not ready to retire".. costs lots to get started..etc), and I finally decided that from now on, I am going to tell them I work for the title co..because I really do. I think I had 8 borrowers last week ask me to "teach" them this business..I was almost rude to the last person who asked me, and that's not cool to be rude. This morning when the borrower asked me "how can I do what you do" I told her I work for the title co..end of subject. Geez! Took me 7 yrs. to figure this one out! Any other suggestions from the "oldies?"

As soon as I tell them I sometimes work 12 - 14 hour days, don't get home until 10 or 11 p.m., and almost always work Saturdays, they shut right up.

Re:Actually my response was
"There are some companies out there who are willing to pay as much as $35 for a signing"
I also let them know that they need a good HP laser printer, fax machine, copier etc, and it helps to have a paralegal and real estate background.
After all that they don't think it is worth it

Re: Trying to collect my fees is always a good story to tell
I've told them about the last minute docs that arrive 2 hrs. after the appt. was supposed to be, and about the travels in the dark and late at night. The dogs (and fleas) and the sticky tables and dirty homes with unmowed lawns (if you can call a 1/4 acre of waist high weeds a lawn) However, I think the one that really "turns them off" is to tell them about all those dead beat signing companies that we "unsuspecting" notaries accept assignments from and then have to hound them for weeks and months on end just to get paid. I see the smile on their faces turn to frowns after those "tales". But I also let them know that their mortgage company, or title company, isn't the particular company I'm referring to or even the signing service that I represent at that closing (yeah, right). Maybe we should just give them the website for Not. Rot. or GMN & let them decide after a week of reading our posts. lol
