OT: A good Bar-B-Que sauce Recipe, anyone?
I am trying to be proactive and make up my B-B-Que sauce this weekend. I normally let Kraft or some other bottle brand do it, but I am trying to spice it up this weekend. Any of you Texans have a good one?

I just start with a can of tomato sauce and add brown sugar 'til it tastes sort of like ketchup. Then, I put a a tablespoon of dill pickle juice in it and repeat until it tastes right. Molasses can also work for the brown sugar. Cook it on low for awhile. I never use a recipe and work on it until it tastes right. But those are my main ingredients.
You could add Tabasco sauce cayenne pepper if you are looking for hot, but I don't do that.
I need to go get a brisquet myself because I think a few may be dropping in on the 4th...if not the 4th, something will be shaking here by the 7th/8th.

Should have said cheapest tomato sauce...like it runny...add water to thin to desired consistency.

me too. The holidays are always a joy and a pain. Brenda, I am taking your recipe down. I think I like the brown sugar due to the carmelization factor.

I like to add a citrus flavor to my sauce. I add fresh squeezed orage juice or home made orange marmalade. I've also use Coke, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper as the sugar base in a tomatoe BBQ sauce. I like Dr. Pepper the best. Like Brenda says, you need to let it cook down slow. Heck Nicole, You've got all sorts of things in the fridge that would make a great sauce, just try the flavors that you like and keep tasting till you like it. Good luck and Happy 4th!

Brewing Brenda's mix..it seems alright..
I just started the sauce brew..(witches brew) as I cackle with glee. I added a little bit of Jack Daniels, (copying TGI Fridays) along with Brenda's Base. I am going to let it simmer for a while and get back to cleaning the house. Have a good one all. Will email Brenda and Becca with the critique from family and friends.

Interesting ideas Becca...citrus...that sounds pretty good. I got my "recipe" from my bro-in-law who's from one of those fabulous little Texas-German settlements where there is a "City Meat Market." It's either on the town square or one street off to the side of the square. Every little German town has one in Central Texas...he worked in one when he was a boy.
Texas Germans waste little and save their money. My bro-in-law observed the secret sauce recipe his employer was famous for. They would buy those huge pickles in two-gallon jars. After the pickles were gone they'd take the pickle juice and use it to flavor BBQ sauce like I mentioned, but the bulk of the pickle juice was for the secret sauce that sat on the counter where they served lunch.
You ordered by the pound and selected from different kinds of smoked meat. They'd slice up a pound or a half pound slab of meat and slide it across the counter to you on square pieces of tissue-like paper. Of course, you got a few slices of bread, onion and pickles to go with it.
People raved over the secret sauce in those little glass bottles and begged for the recipe. It was never given out publically until now. (Dramatic drum roll please.)
All it contained was dill pickle juice and cayenne pepper. When the pickles were sold and emptied the pickle jar, they'd (and, I quote my bro-in-law) "just dump a bunch of red cayenne in the jar." And, thus ends another well kept secret deep in the heart of Texas. =================================

Yeterday was great. Today we are expecting rain. We are currently in Biscayne Bay and have enjoyed a wonderful view of Miami. We had a nice dinghy ride over to Coconut Grove yesterday for lunch, but the ride back was a rough one. All four of us were soaked when we made it back to our boats. We will be heading south to Elliot Key tomorrow.

on a boat for almost a year, it was docked in Pompano Beach just off Atlantic Blvd. My sister's first hubby own the Marina there, the Johnsons, just before the bridge if you were headed towards A1A.....

My hubby grilled Chicken Breasts and made up a sauce using my Knotts Berry Farm Apricot Syrup w/ br sugar and etc... the chicken was so moist. Use low Indirect heat!! Brown Sugar can turn your meat Black of you don't watch it... Yep, one piece was black, inside still great!
