You go JB!

It's a tough row to hoe, I know.
Medically speaking,if you can make it 5 days, the physical addiction is removed.
Now, you only have to deal with the psychological part.
You are strong, you'll make it.
We support you 100%.

Patrick - whatcha doing? Trying to quit smoking? I didn't see thread below, sorry.

If that is the case I've been going strong for 4 months now. Every now and then I wish I had one or could take a drag from someone else's but I resist. My husband tried to quit but he's smoking again.

Drink lots of OJ, excercise & cold showers when you have the urge. I quit twice. You are stronger then the nicotine. Good luck.

Re: OT- Day Five... Still Alive...

It'll get much easier. I've been smoking for over 30 years with me quitting here and there. I just can't afford it anymore monetarily or health wise. Are you using a patch? I used that the first couple of weeks and made it a lot easier.

From a nursing standpoint

I wouldn't advise starting the nicotine patch if you haven't been using one already.
The reason is this: after 3-5 days, your body is "nicotine-free" you are no longer
"physically" addicted to nicotine.
To start the nicotine patch would re-introduce nicotine to your body, and may do more harm than good, by increasing the physiological cravings (again).

i've been on the patch since day one.... I am planning on stepping down over the course of three weeks... then bye-bye nicotine.

Re: From a nursing standpoint JB

Then by all means continue with it, and continue "stepping down" the dose of nicotine.
Nicotine reduction therapy has been shown to be very effective, particularly with the psychological need of the "hand to mouth" habit.
Keep doing what you're doing, and you WILL make it!
