How to get work from title companies

Turn down **ALL** SS work!

If you are accepting SS work because you "need the money", get a job at McDonalds or walking dogs. You will be paid much better.

If the SS can't fill a job, you bet the TCs will find a notary rather than lose the loan. They come to NotRot and other notary directories to find US and pay US directly. Full fee. Not SS crap.

Calculate your car operating costs at 65c per mile each way. See what's left over. Now you see how low your hourly wage is.

If we all turn down SS work, then TCs will be forced to find us and pay us decent fees.

If a newbie, take 25 SS jobs from Negrete's or FASS. No one else. They pay reliably. Dump them after 25 gigs.

If you have a f/t job and just do SS jobs for extra money, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU are ruining the industry for the rest of us!!!

I walk the talk. Haven't taken an SS job in 3+ yrs.

"If a newbie, take 25 SS jobs from Negrete's or FASS. No one else. They pay reliably. Dump them after 25 gigs."

There are plenty of signing services who pay reliably. And there are plenty of them who pay a lot more than the joke $50 that FASS is willing to pay.

Not working for signing services may pay the rent in your area, but it doesn't in mine, where there are literally thousands of notaries who would kill for the signing service business I have. If I had more title companies call me that would be great, I'd love it. But since they dont' call as often as I would like, I do a lot of signing service work. And thanks to them I haven't had to work a "real" job in 2.5 years.

"If you have a f/t job and just do SS jobs for extra money, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU are ruining the industry for the rest of us!!!"

Are you really this thick? In our capitalistic society, only the people who are willing to do this job full time should be allowed to do it? Plenty of full time, incompetent signing agents are ruining the industry for us as well.

"If we all turn down SS work, then TCs will be forced to find us and pay us decent fees."

And if a fleet of winged monkeys flew out of my butt, I could make a lot of money as a circus sideshow or Weekly World News cover boy. And that's a lot more likely to happen than getting even a small percentage of self employed individuals to band together to start turning down signng service work.

If you're gonna offer advice, offer something realistic to how the industry works, not this ridiculous fantasy world stuff.

Re: How to get work from title companies

Cali,

I'd love to see a fleet of winged monkeys fly - ROFLMAO

I had originally decided to ignore the ingorance of this post, but that was just too rich!!

"If you have a f/t job and just do SS jobs for extra money, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!! YOU are ruining the industry for the rest of us!!!"

I take exception to this remark and don't think that generalizing or stereotyping is appropriate. I do work FT and do this [signings] PT. I've been in the inner city at 1am for a signing, got home at 3am (after 45 minute drive one-way) then gotten up to be at work the next day at 8am to work 9-10 hours & then do signings again that night. I haven't taken a sick day since 1997 when I ended up with a kidney infection. When all is said & done, I typically work 50 hrs FT, then an additional 30-35 hours PT per week. I know my stuff, admit my limitations and am always eager to learn. I don't do signings for casino money or just for fun. Please be careful when you're running your mouth about WHO is ruining WHAT. 25 signings doesn't make for "experience". What is ruining this business is incompetence.

CAN'T FIX STUPID.

It's been a rough day Cali but

I thank you for making me roll with laughter. We sometimes disagree but you've nailed this one with humor that would make Leno run for the little boy's room. THANKS!

Re: How to get work from - not completely, Cali,

Jason has some valid points, oh mirthful flying-monkey-essence mist-er, mine.

Depends on where you are, quality of signing services, quality/available supply of notaries.

I am thinking about writing a short story about an eyebrow pencil, six red doorknobs, and a flock of monkeys on wing.

I agree. I can see both sides of this

I can understand that in some areas, you just don't have a lot of options. That doesn't mean you work for peanuts. $50 is deplorable. I don't care what anyone says, you can not make a financially successful career doing $50 signings (or you just have a very weak definition of financial success). But the goal really should be to work directly with title companies and mortgage companies. I'm at about 80%, and getting more and more selective about what I take from the one SS I work with regularly. Work less, make more.

Re: How to get work from title companies

Jason,
There are good SS companies out there that pay very well so don't criticize other people for accepting work from them. If you choose not to work for them then that is your choice. FYI there are also some lowball TC's and Lenders out there.
