Refill Toner

I haven't yet refilled my toner cartridge, and what to find out how it's done. I have a Brother 5150 DLT. How do you refill the cartridge? Sorry for the dumb question, but these things aren't cheap!

Re: Refill Toner - Bonnie

Once you order the toner, there will be a dandy picture in the instructions for your exact printer.

If I were you, I'd order the heating tool that also drills a hole. $10 and it will save you lots of mess from trying to drill.

I spread newspaper outside if the weather is nice. Do everything slowly and gently. DO NOT squeeze the plastic bottle very hard or you'll get a cloud of black.

Tapping is better for me. I use a funnel and slide it into the hole I burned and do not use the squeeze bottle tip. Tapping for me is less messy. You'll plug the hole with tape one you have dumped the bottle of toner into the cartridge. It's really not hard.

If you have to do this in the house, get a white trash sack, open it up on a counter and do everything inside of it so you don't wind up with toner floating inside the house.

Andy may have some suggestions on the Brother...but this is my general procedure for loading an HP cartridge with toner. I keep a stack of them ready to go. When you can afford it, purchase a new one because you never know when your recycling jobs might go bad on you or the thing is worn out.

(Thank you, oh, thank you to the one I found this out from: Sylvia-who-does-not-like-to-be-called "Syl" and who told me not to do it so remember this, Doc. I do not want to see you start crying like I did. I think "Syl" is pretty but Sylvia does not. The Queen Mother deserves her preferences! LOL.)

See, Doc...I hope that softened things for you. QM Sylvia does deserve the full name...however, I know that Syl is probably a term of endearment for all your "Sylvias" and that you meant nothing by it...but, ouch...I remember being prompted to use the full name...wince...did not want you to experience it as well.

I'm on my second Brother printer and both of them have had plugs in the cartridge so there's no drilling required. I haven't had this particular model, but I'm guessing the cartridges are similar.

I agree with Cali

I have the Bro HL 5140 and it has a plug which is fairly easy to remove with a pair of needle nose pliers.
The refill bottles for my model have an easy spout for pouring directly into the plug-hole.
You can always remove the cartridge and take a look at it first to be sure your model also has a plug before you order the heating tool.
