Short term disability for the self-employed
Anyone know any good, reasonably priced providers for short-term disability?

Anyone who sells life insurance company should be able to fix you up. Stay with well known companies. You will need to shop around. My sister in law sells insurance for Allstate and she has several policies available through their life insurance arm (This is not an endorsement of Allstate) Or that duck (Afflac?)

I'm pretty sure AFLAC doesn't sell individual disability policies, it's only done through groups.

Listen to Cali
I am personally convince he's got that Aflac thing down to a gnat's as$.
Outside of that, I have cancelled Aflac. Way too much money, for very little (and way too contingent) return.

Re: Listen to Cali
I like posts with this subject line. There should be more of them on here.
But yeah, I worked for AFLAC for about 3 years so I'm very familiar with their stuff. Of course there could have been some changes in the past 4 years, but I'd guess that the basic product line offerings for groups vs. individuals are pretty much as they were when I was there.
Their focus is on selling through employers, not to individuals. They have a couple of plans that can be bought individually, but the majority of what they sell can only be sold through groups.

Another place to check with would be your employment developement department. They might have a disability program available to self employed people. I had one with them a few years ago. It's not a big plan, but it pays something better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. And the premium might be tax deductible as a business expense.

I have sold short and long term disability insurance. I still own a plan I sold to myself through Franklin Life. My policy has a 3 month waiting period, $1500 cash per month for 5 years and has a return of premium feature. You might check into what they are currently offering. Remember you purchase the policies with good health and the benefits are based on a percentage of your income. Guardian Life, Met Life, Prudential they all sell it just ask one of their agents.

Re: I almost can't bring myself to say this. . .
. . .but if you're an NNA member, they offer a disability policy to members.
