Staffing companies: Temp signers taking our business
I was speaking with a staffing company today about escrow assistant work. They also offered the possibility of working in a title office to do closings for 2-3 days at a time for $25 per hour.
Now I understand why none of the title offices I have marketed myself to, will use me for their closings. The Title companies simply call a temp service and pay about $50 per hour, the staffing company gets their cut and the temp gets $20-$30 DOE.
They are worse than the $50 notaries, only working for $25 per hour in trade for 2-3 days of work. Grrrrrr

So, to me, Tex, this does not sound so bad. Make me see the light.
I charge $300 for a 12 hour day in a TC closing. I base this on a realistic day and what I'll likely make at EOM - remember kids...I am in Tx. My biggest day ever has been $550.

I did not know the TC could hire you for a 12hr day.

Cannot say as such but can call and say will you come in and close loans at EOM for us? It dang sure can run into a 12 hr day.

Market the same TC's and offer your services for $40 dollars an hour for several days. That will save them money, and see what you are worth.

I have one title company that promises to pay $75 per closing in the office, without printing, and $100 if I do print the docs, and up to $125 for travel. I did not realize $25-$30 might be considered a good deal. If I can make $100-$125 (driving up to 5-30mi) each, I guess the sound of $25 per hour in one location would better then running around all day.
However, most title companies mainly call me for EOM, so it would take me all day at $25 each, to earn what I do in one to 1.5 mobile closings. Plus, I would not be able to solicit business from that particular company due to non-compete with the staffing service agreement.
I DO like the idea of undercutting the staffing company by charging $40 per closing for EOM, then I could solicit anyone I like for their business. I appreciate the idea. Thanks for your anwers - I need to focus on the +++ plus side, not down side. :>

Don't go through the staffing company. The TC would most likely be willing to pay you $40 an hour and save $10 on hour on the staffing company. The TC's I used to work for, we'd call in our favorite notaries, or even friends that retired to be full time moms etc. It was up to each branch manager where they got their EOM help from.

I'm not sure what the going "good" wage is in Texas, but in my part of this country $200.00 a day for not having to work in the sun is pretty good. How can you blame someone for doing this? Matter of fact, I might look into that to cover some of those slow days that I have occasionally, like today.

I was told this situation happens the last 2-3 days for EOM closing, not throughout the month. If they did it all month long, I would get in line.

Do you mind sharing the temp agency name if it is countrywide? My spouse does not like to travel around a whole lot and this would be perfect for her. Thanks

Please send me an email to [e-mail address] - keep in mind, this is usually for 2-3 days a month.

You need to take what you hear from a staffing company with a huge grain of salt.
NOBODY has a better reason to give you a low rate of pay for your work if you work for them, and a high rate of pay (for you, supposedly) for a TC client utilizing their services that way.
Either way, you know you're not gonna get the truth ........
