StingRay pre-inked stamp

For those of you have it, I am wondering if it came with a cap for the bottom?

I ordered the StingRay here from NOT ROT but I am having trouble with it. The impression is smeared when I stamp a doc, now I practice 6-7 times before I get a crisp, non smeared seal. I am wondering if perhaps it came with a cap and that would somehow prevent the extra ink flow.

During my first commission I did use another pre-inked stamp that didn't come with the cap and I didn't have problems with the seal being smeared. It's driving me crazy, any tips/suggestions? TIA

The Stingray stamps include a dust cover that snaps onto the bottom. The dust cover protects the somewhat fragile inking surface from damage, keeps dust and debris out, keeps ink from getting on other things and helps somewhat to keep the stamp from drying out. It has nothing to do with extra ink flow.

The stamp shouldn't be producing a "smeared" impression unless it is being moved horizontally when in contact with the paper or if there was a severe production problem. It is more likely that the stamp is releasing too much ink and then bleeding. While that CAN BE related to a production issue, it is usually the result of holding the stamp down for too long; the best way to get a good impression from a flash-based, pre-inked stamp is with a rapid stamping motion and moderate pressure. The longer you hold the stamp to the paper, the more ink it will release.

If you continue to experience problems, please send us another Certificate of Authorization and a note referencing this post. We will make another stamp in the event the one you have is defective.

Re: StingRay pre-inked stamp, Harry

what is the best way to clean the surface of this stamp type? I have had success with dust-off spay & lense cleaning tissue as the stamp do pick up loose fiber from the paper which also caused smearing.

Thanks...Andy

Stamp over the sticky strip on a post it note. Harry gave me this tip years ago and it works like a charm. Wink
