Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Let me give you something to think about and get more feedback on.

I am not a political insider, but when you hold some of the positions with my former company that I did, you make political contacts and the ones that become friends, you tend to keep, even after you retire as you have worked so much, the only friends you have time for are those you meet in business. Most of my information comes from dinner partys and golf under the heading of "So what are you doing now?"

The notary loan signing industry is being looked at due to a lot of consumer complaints concerning the conduct of notaries at signings. So many complaints that it has the attention of our state leaders on some level or another. A larg quantity of the complaints concern undue pressure to accept the terms of the loan. Now I am fairly new to the industry, but not new to business. You need to treat the cause, not the symptoms. Now if a notary cannot be impartial, they they need to quit. We can't do anything about that as laws already exist and they aren't working. However, if something can be done to ensure we get paid for work performed and given a means to collect, then a lot of the pressure will go away.

There will be legislation of some kind or another to deal with the complaints .. and they are many ..
The question that I want to pose to you is do you want to sit back and let those who are opposed to our jobs as NSA's write the legislation or should notaries have a say? The NNA and other orgainzations probably won't be any help as I have been told by those types in our industry that it is not an issue and I should stay out of it. So who do I believe. Those contacts that I have known for years who are in government, or the NNA? (I know, for some it is a toss up)

Well, if the majority of notaries on the boards say back off, well I probably will. You see, I will be leaving in a couple of years and go fishing full time, so I don't really have anything to loose. I just though it would be nice if I tried to improve things for those left behind. ...

Two comments:

1. RTC and lenders/mtg brokers/loan brokers/escrow. Let's face facts - The originators of our work tell us to "get 'em signed". Tell 'em..."if you're not happy with the terms of your loan after you review the package you have 3 days".....yada yada. Not our fault, yet the fear of not being paid allows us to go along with the system, so we do it. You are right when you say that if something can be done to ensure we get paid...yes, it would change. There's LOTS of things wrong - blaming the notary for "pressure" is just foolish on the part of legislators.

2. This is the price to pay for not being organized in some way/shape/form. For those that have put some thought to this - I'll not go into details. The heading of "complaints" can usually be distilled down to MANY underlying issues. I'd hate to see some thoughtless, blanket approach by legislators to a problem-ridden, contractor position as the NSA.

If the lenders created this "convenience position" of NSA, they can also take it away. They are the Alpha-Omega in this deal, and IMO where the problems originate from. Fix them, fix the problems. You can't address this legislatively without hitting the lending institutions.
