Use of website

I have been thinking of creating a website and have saved quite a bit of information on the subject that I have found doing a search on this board and another.

Many of people have written that they get a lot of business from their website, but how? Can a website be constructed so that it has a high position if someone does a search for a Notary Signing Agent, or is the major benefit that when you register with a company and provide the web address, they can find out more about you? I would think a photograph would be beneficial so the SS or TC would have more of an idea whom they are working with.

Mine is on the first page for all of these. Yes. It gets me a lot of business. People use google to find me and call. It's really cheap to have a website. Around $5 a month. Andy Le...do you have the name of where to sign up for that cheap?

Is it $5.00 a month do advertise with Google? I have Yahoo for advertising my website, I just signed up for it the click ads are high. I am not even on the front page and it has already run around $80.00 for one month just for the clicks. I am thinking of switching to Google, but, would like to hear what others say and hoew they advertise their sites, as well. TIA

No, I do not pay Google.com anything.

Nor do I pay Yahoo or any place like that.

To get up to the top without paying, you need to have
Good keywords
Links BACK to your site
Articles (good content - something besides just a notary profile)
Submit your site to dmoz.org

$5 a month to have a website is what I meant. That's about what I think ND said he was paying. Mine are around $7.95 a month.

Brenda,
I just had my website completed in the last couple of months. I do not intend to continue with Yahoo as they are too expensive, and get poor results. I have been looking into other places to submit my info to. I have been reading info on search engine optimization. I have registered with several sites, that have a link back to my site, and reciprocal link back to theirs. Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Pam and Brenda...

Both of you have good websites to the eye.

Both of you are in California fighting for a top spot. However, there are things both of you need to do to make your site get more Google-worthy.

Write short articles with paragraphs, not just lists.

Submit your site to Dmoz.org. Neither of you are in there. Pam, you might not be able to submit there because you are using tiptopwebsite rather than having your own domain. Just a thought.

Get more reciprocal links back to your site.

I only look at google.com for seeking site results.

You can check where your site is getting current recognition right here - http://www.marketleap.com

Put your own link in there and see hotbot, google, etc. links back to your site. Click on those and find out what IS getting recognized and do more of it.

You are one smart lady! Thank You for the info!

I submitted my site to Dmoz.org and now have to wait (approximately two weeks),
to learn if it has been approved!

I will e-mail you soon!

Brenda Cont'd Re: Pam and Brenda...

Brenda,

When 'Notary Here and There' is entered on the advance search (in Googles), the name shows on the top first page. When 'Notary Here and There' is entered on the regular search, it is shown on the second page!

Now, when 'Notary Public 90706 is entered, it is shown on the first page of Googles. However, 'Notary Public, Bellflower' does not come-up!

Again, I Appreciate your help!

Pam

Re: Addt'l tip

In those short articles with paragraphs Brenda said you should write, include all your keywords (notary, signing agent, loan documents, e-docs, Riverside, Ventura County, etc.) as many times as you can. Search engines look for keywords and the more times they appear in text, the higher you go on the list.

Do NOT add keywords in white text or add just a string of the same words (loans, loans, loans) thinking that will work - it will eliminate you. Spiders that crawl sites looking for keywords are smart!

I don't pay either....

I was wondering why some people would pay. I simply use good keywords. Granted, I'm not at the top of Yahoo, however I am the top 3 when using the keywords MA Notary Public and/or Massachusetts Notary Public.

Korey - if you are happy with your results, then give it no further thought. I just like all the calls I get saying, "hey - I got you from google.com*

But, I have a lot LESS competition to fight to the top than CA or MA does.

Brenda, you just about nailed it

Although there are hundreds of things that can affect placement, you've about covered the essential factors. I'd just add that the links back to you have to be relevant links (a site about dog care linking back to a notary site doesn't help, and may actually hurt because Google thinks you're trying to stack your odds), and a site has to be current and updated. A site that hasn't had content added in six months (um, like mine, but I'm working on it!) is considered much less relevant because information isn't timely and current.

One more thing - the <title>Title</title> of your website should have good value as well.

Like for me, I won't put <title>Brenda Stone, NSA, Certified</title>
Because that won't pull up squat for a TC or Mortgage LO.

My title is <title>Brenda Stone - Tex Notary - Bryan - College Station Signing Agent</title>

The Brenda Stone part could easily be left off for the beginner, however, when you get a little experience, people do remember your name and look for you by name online.

Don't forget to use cascading style sheets, make sure your site funtions for those using active matrix display, use cells to align your text, avoid frames and activeX, use appropriate tags and attributes, and run your HTML through a code inspector. Oh, and double check your flux capacitor.

Tia, Re: Use of website

Tia,

"Click" ads can be very expensie! Previously, I had tried Yahoo, for it's one page
free website, but did not like it at all! Therefore, I surfed around to the various website companies. The company that I chose to use, was tiptopwebsite.com.
The plan that I have, cost either $4.95 monthly, or $45.00 for the year!
The webpages are easy to set-up, and easy to revise! Also the graphics are great!

My website is: Http://www.tiptopwebsite.com/pamrodriguez

I have received much notarial business from this site!

It's not $5, but

Just like any others their cost is $7.95/mo on an annual plan. After 7 different webhosting companies, I'm more than satisfied with this one. From novice to expert level they have everything you need to be on the web without paying extra. For the purpose of this thread, they have the "keyword digger" software where it help you find the most common words for your site to enhance better search engine placement. Another major difference compared to others is that they have visual aide for every signle step needed to build your site.

I like it so much that I signed up as an affiliate. Click on the link below and take a tour, better yet, their "keyword digger" is free even if you don't sign up.
