Vital Statistics

May I ask????

Is this something new that signing companies are asking me send my driver's lisence and E&O info, some are asking for race, sex, and other vital statistics. I have been asked about three times in the last week to provide this information in order to be paid for a job that was completed. Of course, I am not told this information when they call to schedule closings. Often times they will call me at the last minute and docs arrive within minutes of the closing appt that they schedule so there is no time to review docs or contractural agreements. More times than not paperwork is not reviewed until post closing because you are already late. Then there are all these technochologies and glitches to be paid.

If you have done the job already, then all you need to provide is a W9. They cannot withhold payment from you for any other reason.

Alot of companies ask for DL, E&O and maybe even car insurance policy. I cross out my DL and auto Insurance Policy # when companies request the info. When they want this information its prior to any appoitment most times.

I did five signings for one company last month. Most of the other companies sent payments already. As I was going down the list of the those I needed to send reminders to this was the response I got from this one and about two others. I was told that if I did not provided it I would not be paid this quite a bit of $$ out there.

MS does not require bond nor do we have certification numbers. The MS certificate of commission is just a step above writing on etch a sketch, nothing too technical here.

Now I am being told that they need various other info like what my DOB, race and sex are.

You might remind them that we have anti-discrimination laws

in this country that forbid asking age, race or sex (tho' it's fairly easy to tell a Jane from a John..well, most of the time, it is.) Tell 'em to stick it in their ear.

Michelle

they need one thing...your invoice. If you have more than $600 in your invoices/fees in a year then perhaps they could request more.

Until then? I'd give them the bare minimum, and not fuss around with "their" requirements. You're the notary and they owe you.

Tell 'em that's all they are getting.
