Want A Good Laugh !
Well ! It appears that the NNA business must be getting a bit slow. Their latest "new gig" "NNA , FIC launch debt collection for signing agents." Why do I find this so amusing ? It sure tells you something about the depths that our profession has sunk . Yes , it is very true that we have always had collection situations . But this is the first time I've ever seen an association hop on the collections band wagon. I have the feeling they are not doing this for free there must certainly be somthing in it for them.
Let's review ! First you promise every poor soul you can contact with unrealistic amounts of money, then sell them everything under the sun and then offer collection services. Newbies are you getting this message "Keep your day job!" Gee! Wonder why I'm laughing so hard.
LOL
This just my opinion

Yes. . and isn't it also the NNA who are now offering classes in filling out forms for Bankruptcy, divorce and wills? I no longer receive the massive amounts of mailings (brochures and such) for Signing Agent courses and claims of making the high fees. The signing agent course is still available but they no longer seem to be pushing it . .
It has certainly slowed drastically here in CA. Now when I miss a call (and they are few and far between, none today) I want to scream! LOL! The calls are getting less and less . . I'm glad I kept my day job!

Good for you Susan !
If it wasn't so sad a person could roll on the floor laughing. NNA has contributed to the profession drying-up. And the notaries that would take a job in my area that is 88 miles round trip for $75-$100 (that's with edocs) That grand offer is from Loan Signers. Notaries and ss offering and taking such fees should be put out of business !!! Regular gas is now at $3.00 a gal what are these people thinking about .
This is the slowest I have ever seen business in all the years I've been a notary. as for the NNA I have NO intention of ever sending them another $$$.
I have been doing this full-time , but another job four days a week is looking Very good right now.
Good luck Susan Sammy

Your Comment About the NNA...
..."I have the feeling they are not doing this for free there must certainly be something in it for them."
This pretty well sums up what the NNA has been about for the past 4+ years. They've turned into one giant marketing machine designed to generate a nice profit for their "organization". Profit in & of itself isn't bad when that's your stated purpose & goal. The problem as I've seen it evolve over the years with the NNA is they've cloaked themselves in the disguise of a not for profit organization...calling themselves "The Nation's Notary Professional Organization". Any semblance of promoting & supporting the integrity of the Notary Public office is no longer even on their radar screen. It's now all about generating countless numbers of new Notaries for the lining of their own pockets. In my opinion they're beyond shameless & unfortunately there are more than a few frequenting this board that'll staunchly defend the NNA's current practices. Some even go so far as to become presenters at their annual shindig & speaking of...if those individuals (one in particular comes to mind) are interested, the NNA is currently advertising for presenters to shill for them at their 2007 convention. If history is any guide they'll be up on the dais for the NNA again next year.

Re: Your Comment About the NNA...
Oh Yes Dennis you are right. . the course for bankruptcy is over 300.00 . . someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think all 3 courses are included. Each is priced individually and of course they will list you in their database which is outsourced for people or companies in need of these services. I am a CA "legal document preparer" FNA/AKA Paralegal. I wouldn't need their courses . . but of course if you just want to be listed in their database for referrals it'll cost ya. Too much liability involved in this stuff in my opinion. What da ya'll think?

I rarely comment on the NNA
They were the first place that I started when I was gathering info and trying to learn the process. At first glance, I saw them as a sort of governing body. I can see how others might have gained some valuable information from them. But watching them turn into this mass marketing machine has really turned me off. If there was a time that they had any concern for our success, that time has clearly passed. And their so called training really isn't preparing anyone for the realities of this career. That's obvious by some of the questions asked by those that just finished the NNA classes.
When I owned my independent Allstate Insurance agency, I used to see them set up agent after agent right on top of each other. $20,000 initial investment, no assistance, throw em up against a wall, see who sticks. There was no concern about who succeed or failed, just bring in another gullible sucker to replace them. 4 out of 5 failed in the first three years. The NNA is exactly the same. Churn out 10,000 notaries, don't worry if 9900 fail, we'll just bring in more. They're preying on those who don't know better. Shame, shame, shame.

This will be my response to the NNA at renewal time
I just received my renewal form from the NNA. I'll be sending it back, alright But instead of a check enclosed. I'll be sending a letter outlining my reasons for non-renewal. Will it have an impact? One letter, probably not. But, I would like to encourage others who feel like I do, to do the same or similar. And I also discourage new notaries from wasting their $$$ there. There are plenty of other resources for the new notary or signing agent. In my realm of business, new business is great. Repeat business is better! I have learned that my repeat business keeps my mtg. paid, LOL New business sometimes pays the light bill, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes new business becomes repeat business! I am still waiting on a response to a question I posed to the NNA via phone & email 2 years ago, LOL Apparently they don't value MY repeat business.

Sad thing is...
that for every one that doesn't renew, they'll sign up 20 newbies, and the cycle will perpetuate ad infinitum. Guess I don't ever see the impact of mass non-renewals able to overcome that of a continuous flow of dollar-eyed, gullible/greedy people looking for what they think is easy money. I can only hope that something happens to skewer their system.

Theoretically speaking, of course, but there just might be one of those who are not as shallow as they hope one of these days and who knows a good class action lawyer who's hungry enough to take up their cause.
