A new one

Last night I had a RESPA signing where the borrowers met me at the lone dirt road to their country property on fourwheelers. They asked me to follow them, and we drove about 1/4 mile to their double wide. I offered to take my shoes off as I entered, as I could see theirs lined up on the porch.

Inside I was greeted by, what I was told, 49 mounted heads of wild animals the borrower had killed with a bow and arrow which were on all the walls of the living room, kitchen and dining room. During the signing my toes were nibbled by an albino ferret.

When the signing was finished, the wife told me that they would tell the lender that they wanted me to handle the loan signing as they "don't let just anyone on their property.

I guess that I was lucky that the borrower didn't meet me on his four-wheeler with a bow and arrow!

I had an unusual experience last night too. My edocs were very late, making both borrower's late for work. Finally they asked if I could meet at Mrs. Borrower's place of employment. I said sure since it was only 4 miles from me instead of the 25 miles through winding roads that I would have traveled to their home.

Mrs. B works at a unique association/club. There were three buildings..first one was a huge bar where there were hundreds of people playing bingo, drinking and smoking. No one knew her there.

They referred me to the second building...it was a shooting range...there I was in my little capris and my high heeled sandals carrying a brief case. A bunch of guys were outside with earplugs in their ears and each carrying a gun. They all parted to allow me to walk nervously through them to the inside of the building. No Mrs. B there either.

They refer me to the third building which houses skeet shooting and archery...you guessed it...no Mrs. B there either. I call Mr. B on his cell phone and he says Mrs. B works in the first building I had gone to. She's the bartender there!

So I went back to building one...sidled up to the bar, crawled up on a high stool, and spread my papers out...Mr. B is drinking beer the entire time...Mrs. B continues to wait on customers and comes back every minute or so to puff on her cigarette and sign a few more papers.

They kept asking if I wanted a drink, but of course I declined. The signing took an hour and 15 minutes for a simple refi because it was loud in there for one thing and we had to wait at times for Mrs. B to come back. Nice people though, and both happy that I could meet them elsewhere. It was 8pm by then, and Mr. B. was going back to a customers home where he was laying a wood floor.

I don't know that I would be bothered by anything other than the ferret. In fact if I had the time I would love to take up bow hunting.

Oh how funny! Your story reminded me of my first signing (being the veteran signing agent that I am now that I have completed 3 signings-haha) After several phone calls and waiting HOURS to get the documents delivered, I had to meet a riverboat captain on the banks of the Mississippi River. The captain and I sat at a picnic table at the river side, holding the documents to keep them from blowing away, AND fighting off spiders that kept falling out of a tree onto us. I maintained my professional composure throughout all of this -- even though I wanted to run screaming and jump naked into the river to get those dratted critters off of me!

GBailey, what part of KY are you from?

I'm guessing the western part since you were on the banks of the Mississippi. I'm in extreme eastern KY, Floyd County.

Re: GBailey, what part of KY are you from?

You are exactly correct that I live in the western part of the state. I currently live near Paducah.
Nice to hear from a fellow Kentuckian.
