Beautiful!!
It was absolutely amazing how everyone banded together to help Sylvia save her dog and help with her car problems!!! Job well done everyone, especially Brendatx. Now if everyone really want to help Sylvia, and it is clear that everyone has her best interest at heart, lets start teaching her how to reach financial independence,so she may not have to find herself in this type of situation in the future.I understand being self employed is not easy, so when the going is good and money starts coming in again, make sure you stricktly live by a 'wants and needs' list. Try to save as much as possible from every paycheck as you can,for the just in case you need it sometime in the future, for some kind of emergency. Pay off as much debt as you can, except for house and car payments and buy only what you can pay for at that time. Do not rely on maybe I will make some money sometime this week and then pay for it. Since it sounds as if both Sylvia and her husband are working, two incomes would make it easier to achieve financial independence. It just takes sacrifice, but you will benefit in the long run. If you have the urge to splurge, choose a long walk in the woods with your dog, and just enjoy and appreciate nature and it makes you feel so much better. Financial independence should be at least 6months to 1year reserves in the bank. Again, I understand the unexpected happens, but always be prepared. I know the onslaught will begin and I am not trying to pick on Sylvia, just trying to help.

Dear Anonymous
I truly understand about financial independence! I had been financially independant for many years. Unfortunately, my colon ruptured in February resulting in emergency surgery, which I was not expected to live through. I had 4 days in intensive care and 2 weeks in a regular hospital room, plus home nursing care when I was allowed home. My work had already slowed down a lot, as I have RA and Sjogrens' syndrome and am no longer able to drive, so I have to rely on my husband to drive me. Our reserves were soon eaten up. A long walk with or without the dog anywhere is out of the question for me. For the past year it has been a struggle to just walk to the end of the driveway.
I had no idea Brenda was going to do this. Had she said anything to me before she did it I would have discouraged her, as she is aware of. But she did it, and I am overwhelmed by the responses. Lil Bit will get her surgery, thanks to the generosity of several of the members on here.

Sylvia, I think many people would agree that you do not owe anybody an explanation concerning your financial situation. There have also been times in my life when I was chugging along just fine (financially) and out of the blue the unexpected happens and sets me back. That is just the way life goes...and thankfully I had the generosity of somebody close to me to help pull me out of the trench so I could get back on my feet! I think it is great that you had so many people willing to help you. Too bad more people don't pass a little kindness forward when they have the chance.
Hope your Lil Bit gets well soon.

That may be true! I used to have terrible migraines for years. After getting my first Yorkie they abated, and I very very rarely get a migraine now. And my blood pressure has always been good. (except for a while where it was low, but I was ill)

That's great! I'm glad to hear it. I believe it to be true. I have 2 little Shih Tzus and just got a Golden Retriever. I know for a fact that whenever I have a bad day (a really bad day) and I can feel the blood pressure is up...I come home sack out on the couch with the dogs and in no time I start feeling better. Maybe it's because you can just automatically feel the unconditional love! They could care less what kind of of day you had..they are just happy to have you home!

I am glad for that am sorry about your recent misfortune. It is remarkable that you have such a superb support network here on NR. I wish you all of the best in the near future. Financial independence may well soon be a thing of the past. "The Coming Economic Collapse" is an interesting, awe inspiring read that will affect all mobile professions as the price of oil per barrel rises. Stephen Leeb is the author, if you have any downtime, worth a quick glance through. If our profession continues to accept discounted fees, we will soon be out of business. Take good care.

It is quite obvious that my advice does not pertain to you.Sorry to hear about all your health challenges. I do hope you will overcome and resume a healthy life in the near future. Hopefully your husband will be able to sustain both of you financially untill such time.I am positive that you have the support of your family as well. I am glad that you are able to keep in contact with everyone via the internet.

Dont begrudge Anon69 for reaching out in their own way
I think its really interesting that some chose to pick apart Anon69's statement which I took as a whole to be an uplifting compliment and praise to everyone that came to Sylvia's aid while actually wanting to help her. Could they have done it differently...maybe but oh well. I dont know Sylvia's financial situation. All I know is that this thing with her dog came up and it needed to be taken care of and people responded which is an amazing thing in itself. Sometimes things catch us with our pants down and we need to take action to prevent a greater tragedy. Financial independance means different things to different people. I know what that means for me and I'm sure Sylvia knows what that will mean for her but that should be left up to her to attain that. If she needs help, I'm sure she knows who, where and how to reach out to people for advice. If she doesnt, I'm sure she has the capability to ask someone. I'm sure there are plenty or financial planners, advisors, and accountants here she could reach out to. I prefer Suze Orman myself. Point is, dont begrudge Anon69 for trying to reach out in their own way.

It wasn't an uplifting compliment, it was a passive aggresive insult hurled directly at Sylvia. Learn to recognize the difference.

An attack from someone who had no idea what Sylvia's been through in the last 6 months. In the process any praise was completely flushed down the toilet. You bet we aren't going to stand for anyone who thinks they are going to have a go at Sylvia.

What? Shut up you dumb@$$!
What the hell do you know about Sylvia's situation? Having a stack of unexpected medical bills thrown at you would do a number on anyone's financial independence. The best medical coverage in the world still has holes when it comes to major surgery and life threatening illnesses. What a presumptive load of crap. Now YOU go choose a long walk. And keep walking.

Well Becca it seems that we have a couple of anons with their heads so far up their butts that they need a braile keyboard. Yes Brenda I'm here. It looks like it's gonna take a good month to get the house set up with painting, new furniture, fencing, etc. But my gosh the anons have run amuck. Ragging on what a selfless thing you have done by offering your materials at such a discount and letting the minimal profits go to help Sylvia because it's not about her dog it's about her. We love that woman and she has been through the ringer. Screw the stinking crybabies. Oh and the moron going off on Becca. Good golly Becca knows this business and anyone who reads her answers to questions of substance (not dumb butt lazy questions) would find nuggets of gold. I need to redirect my fire to cleaning up because I've got furniture arriving this afternoon. And I must say I FRIGGIN LOVE TEXAS.

I honor Brenda's initiative and the coming together of notaries who understand what has transpired. These ANON's most likely are newbies with spouses who have regular paychecks and think we are all making tons of $$$ with great bennies. Welcome to the world of independent contracting. There by the grace of God could go ANY of us. Had it been you, you too would have been blessed and grateful. Hat's off to the majority!
