Birth Certificate

I'm a California notary...not Alaska (I've tried to change it). Anyway, this may seem like a very silly question, but when in doubt always ask questions. I have a gentlemen who needs to get his daughters original birth certificate. He said he has to fill out a two page request form in order to get it. He asked me to notartize it and he said it states right on the form that it needs to be notarized. Has anyone seen one of these forms because this is my first time notarizing anything like that? And can I notarize it?

His signature needs to be notarized if he is not going to the county recorder's office in person. He has to check the boxes that he is a relative, or guardian who has a need to get it. If he is going in person, then the clerk will verify his id, then a notary is not necessary. If he is going in person, then don't have him sign the application, as it will need to be done in front of the clerk. I have had cause to use the forms for myself and family members in the past few months. We live close enough to go to our county recorders office in person, so a notarized signature was not necessary as the clerk checked our id. Hope this helps

I am not a California notary, but I do believe that this topic was discussed a few days ago. If what I remember is correct, it is just a general document the requestor fills out, obtains notarization, and submits to whatever dept. hold the certificates in CA.

Use the Orange Search button. I am sure you will find something.
Good Luck and Happy Notarizing!

I've notarized letters of request also. Go ahead a notarize if you are satisfied that the requester is who they say they are! Smile

Yes that is a standard form. Make sure the Acknowledgment is up to our 2006 requirements. If you can negotiate a travel fee this assignment could be worth $40 - $50 cash.

$40-$50!! That's great. I don't really do that much notarizing (every six months or so) so I just now ordered the new 2006 Acknowledgment forms. What's the difference with these versus the old version?

My evening signing just got cancelled. Frown but, now I can clean house ... Frown .

OR,

I can read NotaryRotary.com !!! Smile and read notary trivia. Smile

Okay...I am not from CA but I might know the answer to this question because I read this board.

The difference is in your handbook at the Ca SOS btw. Here's MY GUESS from memory.

Used to be you could say " the undersigned" in the blank.

Now the **name** of the undersigned must go in that blank.

Wait...was that for the new jurat????

Somebody from CA grade me!!

The student from Texas

gets an A- (applause!!!!)

I'd be more generous, but you forgot that one teeny, tiny thing that will get your document pulled in LA county....***name***, then ***a notary public***. Yep, seems someone thinks certificates by others than a notary happen often enough to consider it, but hey, I don't make the rules.

Besides, you did better than MOST CA notaries! Congrats Brenda, you get the Honorary California notary Award of the Week and the Ginko Biloba Award for advanced Memory Skills.

But then, it IS all about you.

Big Smile

*** it IS all about you.***

Thank you. That's better.

Curious...so is that both the jurat and ack? Or just the jurat?

Re: The student from Texas

Acknowledgment only, the jurat doesn't have a place for the notary name or title, but I suspect that will be the change for 2007, we'll need something to talk about for next year.

And, it's clear to me that it SHOULD be all about you - anybody that publishes a killer newsletter like you do B....deserves it!
