Brother HL-5250DNT G/B/U?

Any better alternative which doesn't cost significantly more?
I kinda liked the speed and dual tray of 5250DNT. Any drawbacks I should be aware of?

Sweet Printer....

very fast. The only thing is that you can't (at least I don't think you can) refill the toner. Other than that, it's been worth its weight in gold. I paid 285.00 for mine.

I've been using the 5250 without the dual tray... I use the manual tray for letter and the regular tray for legal.

It's fast... about 30 ppm.

Toner's a little expensive for a new cartridge, but I have about 10 cartridges that I am in the process of refilling and rotating.

I have no complaints about this printer... it's been very good to me so far.

Look at the HP 4100

You can get a used one on ebay for about $200 and the 2nd tray for about $50. You can also get a 2 year warranty through square-trade of a couple of bucks.. All told, I spent under $300 for a commercial printer (HP 4100) with 2 trays, with warranty, only 12000 pages printed (rated for 150,000 a month making this a basically new printer).

This is a heavy duty HP that prints 25-29 pages per minute. I get remanufactured toners rated for $10,000 pages for $31 each, free shipping.

You can't beat this set up. Cheap toner, heavy duty printer.

Re: Look at the HP 4100

I think it's tough to get one at that price now a day. They were sort of surplus last year when companies upgraded to the 4200 series. HP printers really are work horses. I saw some on Ebay with over 400K pages printed.

Re: Look at the HP 4100

Actually Andy, I just bought one about 2 weeks ago. Total was under $300 including Printer (-12,000 Pages printed), 2nd 500 page tray, shipping and 2 year Ebay warranty. Six months ago I bought the same set up for just over $300. You have to know what you are looking for, but it can be found.

I like this printer almost as much as my HP 4200.

consider this when looking at the Brother printers...

You have to consider your operating expenses for any printer. I'm not sure of this Brother, but a lot of them have a drum that needs to be replaced occasionally. It is not a cheap part and when it goes, you HAVE to buy a new one. The HP B/W laser has the drum built into the toner cartridge. It is replaced everytime you replace toner.

Re: Brother printers...I have a 5170 DNLT..

with a dual tray and I love it. It will also print in duplex and I've had a few packsges that printed the DOT on both sides. I get the toner cartridges refilled and recon'd for about $30
a shot.

One more model

Any opinion on Brother MFC-7820N 5-in-1?
Slightly more costlier but has all the functions you need in one machine.

Re: One more model

Just a silly question, if the fax or scanner goes to the shop, can you leave the printer at home.?

Re: One more model

I agree...I would never buy an all in one machine because if one goes, they all go.

Brother MFC 8220

Love it. It has an auto feed for scanning doc's into the computer. I use online fax so this was imprtant to me. Also for scaning signed doc's to convert to adobe to email back. Printing doc's is very fast!
I just refilled the toner myself for the first time and found it very easy to do. I have about 5 used cartridges saves in the closet.
The only trouble I have has is when it is humid, but this is common in all office machines. I bought it from Office Depot with a rebate.

Re: Brother MFC 8220

I bought one b4 Christmas and i love it. I was just looking for toner today and I noticed that Provantage had a pretty good price on it. They are great for toners and whatnots too.
