Changing out photo on profile-

I have tried more then once today to do this and yes I do know how to do it. I was able to delete the old photo but unable to receive confirmation message that the new photo has been uploaded on NOTROT. My thinking is perhaps they do some work on the server on Saturdays which interfers with this task not being doable at the moment, anyone with the same thought?

Susan I think you are right on "updating system info" on weekends. It may be best to wait until Monday to try changing your photo or updating your profile.

Interesting profileSmile I especially like your "up, down & other side of mountain" comments. It sounds like you live (& work) in a nice area unlike the hot, hot, hot 110 degree AZ community l live in. Can't wait for the 122+ expected this summer.....(:

Re: OT OT OT

Approximately 70% of the mountain (folks that live on the mountain) commute to work off the mountain, there is really no work to speak of on the mountain. Lake Arrowhead is beautiful and you either work for the school district here, sell Real Estate, or you may have a business that is successful but many fail. Folks come here to visit, fall in love with the beauty that surrounds you and decide to buy a home and begin a new life here. They quickly learn in a few years if they make it to that, the commute is too much for them and then move off the mountain. In the meantime the folks that live on the mountain have a lingo all their own. If you are going down the mountain and you will need to go down the mountain for almost anything and everything, it is referred to as going down the hill, if you are headed up the mountain it is referred to as going up the hill. Lake Arrowhead is a large tourist attraction, holidays you are wise to stay in your home, because the tourist are here. Now many folks who of course have businesses are pleased with the tourist, I have no business on the mountain nor do I work full time on the mountain, so I prefer the tourists stay as far away as possible. Over the years many movies have been filmed here and used to be a big hang out for film stars, many live here now, as do many wealthy folks. They move here for a variety of reasons if not just the beauty alone.
We are very average income, worked hard all our life and still do, purchased our home, an old large home for an excellent price by CA standard market prices. The home, has of course more then doubled in market value. I live next to four empty lots and have a beautiful view of the lake from most windows in my house. I love it here due to the nature that surrounds you, I wake up to birds singing, wildlife in the forest and this beautiful lake, the temps are almost always cooler then below. Most days and more so in the summer I feel I live in a tree house. We are at 5000 feet, however we do have some hot days. Most homes do not have air conditioning, you simply don't need it. I had wanted to live here for some 20-25 odd years after first seeing it, my husband however is more of an ocean person and wanted nothing to do with commuting down the hill. We both have good jobs and knew that wasn't changing, so a commute if we moved here was inevitable. He has a company car and does drive a lot anyway, I work 70 miles away, one way. I leave at 4:30 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. most days, I work 182 days a year so for me the commute may be long when I make it but I'm off half the year, so I continue, we both work down the hill so we do deal with the high temps during the day if our jobs have us out and about.
We seldom want to go on vacation because we feel we are on vacation 24-7 since moving here. My home is surrounded by vacation homes, folks that my come up once a year, some folks don't come to their home for years so it is very private. It is also a very safe area to live in, we do have crime here but it is at a minimal at best.
I will give you a for instance, we have a Bed and Breakfast about a mile from our home on North Bay Road, it has sold and resold every year since we moved here, folks buy, think they can earn a full time living and then quickly discover in the winter months business can be very slow, depending on weather and roads. The Bed and Breakfast is "Eagle's Landing" they most likely have a website if your curious, I think it has been on the market for some time. Anyway now that I bored you with my details, sorry for the length of the post but that's Lake Arrowhead.

Re: OT OT OT

It sounds beautiful!!! A long haul for commute, but I live approx 30 miles from my work place so that equates out to 60 roundtrip and do not have anything scenic (Metro Phoenix) to look at day & night except more asphalt & a tremendous over-population & huge level of traffic (we have the illegal immigrant issue big time in the valley, so much so that police will not even respond to calls in some area's) however to move to Northern AZ (cool pine's) would be too costly and dumb on my part because of the lack of job's, lack of affordable health care, etc. Your home & the surrounding area sounds so beautiful & tranquil (outside of the tourista onslaught). I envy you & yours' for being able to live in your dream vacation home!

Re: OT OT OT Thanks Sherry....I have a coworker

she is retiring this year, her hubby has a home business that he can do anywhere, their plans are to sell and buy in AZ, the very spot you mentioned (cool pines) Northern AZ. They are very excited.
My work is in the busy city and it can take me a half hour to get from one high school campus to another, that's less then 6 miles, it's absurd, never mind the stress level that traffic and crowds bring on. And we have lived most of our life working and living in the metro areas.
Sherry perhaps you should considered moving to Lake Arrowhead, CA, we actually still do have places here on the mountain selling for under $200,000.00, it might be a fixer upper but if one enjoys that type of hobby this could be a good thing. I point his out to my daughter and her new hubby all the time. I did a signing the other night for a couple that bought a darling place actually right around the corner from me 3 years ago, paid $195,000.00 for it, and my goodness have they done wonders with it....too cute....

Re: OT OT OT Thanks Sherry....I have a coworker

Sounds so tempting!! I'll give it some consideration because I'm fed up with the "crunched" environment over here and love the idea of some peace & tranquility & the price sounds great for the area. My grandson loves coming to grandma's house because she has a "real yard"...isn't that sad?? Everywhere in his little life is "desert landscape & rock yard's" except at grandma's. My daughter told me he told her that and she's been trying to get her hubby to "change" their landscaping but he's not a "yardwork" person nor was his side of their family, so I guess she's going to have someone come in & maintain the lawn & yardwork after she gets a contractor out there to change it...

Re: OT OT OT Thanks Sherry...If you do want to come and look

at property, the drive is not long, my hubby had stores in AZ he traveled to once a week, the company has since sold the stores. Please now you are welcome to stay at my place, we live on what is called the level entry, so the entire bottom floor consists of 2 bedrooms , 2 bathrooms, a living room and dining area and wet bar with sink and refrig, etc., we never use the bottom level only when company or the kids come home, is someone there. The lower level has it's own entrance and driveway, so you can come and go as you please. You could go online and see properties.....and have a Realtor waiting for you...

Sue...

I grew up in the Valley and as a child I remember going up to your beautiful mountain to see the snow. Even then the traffic was a nightmare so I know exactly what you're talking about. Here in Tennessee I used to have a 60 mile one way commute to work, took a little over an hour each way and you just get used to it eh? I went "home" in March for my brothers funeral and couldn't believe how it's grown up. Not a postage stamp piece of property that doesn't have a house, apartment or condo on it. Just totally unreal. Everything is lit up like Vegas 24/7, people people people everywhere! I thought I was going to have myself a heart attack everytime I hit the interstate! It was nice walking down memory lane, ty for the post.

Re: Sue..Yes you are right and were you speaking of the San

Fernando Valley, I assume you meant San Bernardino. I had to attend a school conference a few months ago, it was in Santa Barbara, a 350 mile drive for me, when I first moved to CA in 1969 I lived in the San Fernando Valley until shortly after we had our second child and housing was much more affordable at that time further east, so we headed to Riverside County in 1984.We bought our first house in that area for $70,000.00 brand new and darling. We raised our kidos there and remained there until they completed school. I guess I got off track but my point was as I passed through those 350 miles of valleys because that is what CA is one valley after another. I was stunned at the growth through the entire 350 mile trip. I had not been in the area for at least 15 years. The freeways were lined with condos and houses. I guess I always sort of wonder how does one end up buying a home almost on top of the freeway, assuming the freeway was there first. And yes everything is lit up like Vegas 24-7, on the mountain, everything is dark but when I head down each morning still being dark, you drive on highway 18 also known as Rim of the World the entire valley floor below is a maze of lights even at 4:30 a.m. Should it be a cloudy day, one can't see the floor below due to the mass of clouds I now refer to that mass as marshmellows if one has ever been above the clouds. It's just plain neat living here. I was just out on the deck working on a project and I recalled the other day as I was cooking din din on the barbie, a little humming bird went into one of my actually fake bird houses(another words for display only) but the bird is welcome to go in. Anyway Mr. Tweety was going in and out of the birdhouse that day as I was cooking outside, today however it must be Mrs. Tweety and she has returned, she is bringing her young ones some eats....SHE HAD YOUNGINS
A few years back I had a mom and pop bluejay, build a nest on the lower deck and give birth .......too sweet....This is so much of what I love about living here, so close to nature.

WOW!! That is so nice of you!! I'll keep in touch with you if you don't mind and let you know if I get to come over.....Had to run out in the heat to get shopping done before it hits 111 degree's today.....ugh. too hot .........I've grown up here ,but the valley has definitely exploded last 10-15 years to the point you can't see where one city ends & another one starts. It's just a continuous row of houses & asphalt ...Dr's used to send patients to the valley to help their asthma.....now the air is so bad that asthma patients are in constant dire straits............your home & surrounding area sounds so wonderful.....Sue's right, we can all relate to a nostalgic period of time when there was room to breathe between neighbors..

Re: OT OT OT Sherry I remember when I was searching

for property here and it sure would have been nice if I'd had a place to drop in, take a nap, get a drink of water, think about the house I just saw, just relax and continue my search.... looking at property can be so tiring.....especially when one drives a distance.

Re: OT OT OT Sherry

Sounds kinda familiarSmile I too have had illness couple of years back & the heat is ovewhelming especially to me (dumb me, lived here most of my life, thought I was infallable, gave myself heat stroke about four years ago working outside in the heat (it was only 116 that day) building a shade run for my dogs.....Do you know with heatstroke, you stop sweating and I had put a big fan outside blowing on me & realized when I kept getting chilled (your brain doesn't work right either) ummmm, strange to get chilled in 116 degree heat, went inside & blacked out....Not to mention the sunburn! It still affects me as soon as the weather starts warming up....that will never change & yes'm every year I get older & too old to keep doing this! Looking forward to meeting you & visiting your beautiful home & area. Smile
