Absolutely love mine. I've had a job that it couldn't handle.

With mine, I have to buy ONLY Dell cartridges, Staples has started carrying a few but they are more expensive than the others. As such, I only use it to scan, it was a freebie with one of my computers.

Re: Lulu - Dell Laser Printer - Cartridges are unrefillable???
I love the service I get for my cartridges. $79 and I receive them in a day or 2. I just order on line. When the new cartridge arrives, I receive a mailing label to return the empty one. Love the ease. Also, I get a "gas gauge" on my computer. Everytime I print, a little screen pops up to show my toner level. Can't get any easier. Love this so much better than the HP I did have.

I drill a hole in my cartridges and refill with toner. It is about $8 per cartridge. This was my refill question. Can you do that?

No, it voids the toner set up with them. That's the only quirk I've found. I must admit, I really don't miss refilling cartridges.

Dell 1600 & 1700 are refillable
Cost only $21 for toner + chip to refill a high yield. Dell cartridge already have a hold for refill as well. There is a local toner shop here that I'm affiliate with where I get discount on my next order for refering anyone to them.
Rick/NY bought a bunch and I think he's satisfied b/c I did not hear from him. $21 sure beat paying $79 for a refill by Dell.

That's what *I'm* talking about.
How often do you have to replace the chip?

Re: Amen! Can I get a witness?...The chip
chip is replaced with each refill since it's "flashed" with the page count limit (6K) where the printer will not print until it's replaced.

Julie, consumable will run you to the ground. IMO, if you can afford that much money, the most economical printer for this business now a day is the HP4100, 4200, or 2460.
