The absolute lowest I have charged was $100 with overnight docs and I could walk, literally 5 houses away to the closing. Otherwise, my base is $125 within 5 mile radius and with the price of gas I may have to go up on that. I do get calls for $40!! I tell them good luck and hang up. Funny some of those have called me to go back and meet my fees. Lately I've had several that want a "deal" because someone already did the signing and messed it up, I add $50 on top of my regular fee for those. Always end up spending extra time smoothing over upset borrowers. Don't you feel like telling them 'you get what you pay for'?

You have to realize that there are a lot of signing agents in Florida that do not read message boards, and I believe the Florida members here would charge more than $50!
But we cannot "fix" fees. We are all independent contractors.

i am a notary in florida in brevard county. Lately most of the companies have been offering only 50 dollars. I have been getting over 100. I think notaries should turn down these low fees then signing companies will have to pay reasonable fees. Please dont take less than 85. Where are you florida notaries from?

The only way to truly catch the new notaries accepting such low fees early on is to download the public record of all new notaries and send a postcard (without breaking any laws of course). Of course this costs money and the last download I did to check it out yielded 423 new notaries who applied through a residence that weren't tied to a company in a 2 week period.

In my opinion, if you stick with your fee structure you can't go wrong. The notaries doing signings for small fees don't do a great job most times due to inexperience and the signing agencies end up paying the price. They will learn to go with experience over price. It won't be worth it in the long run. When they finally lose enough business, they will either meet fees or go bust.

Hold on and stick with your fees! Losing out on a couple of signings that would not have given you a profit weren't worth it anyway.

But not all notaries are signing agents. Send a card to all new notaries and you will be opening the door to more wannabe signing agents.

yeppers. danged if you do, danged if you don't.

I guess we'll just have to convince NNA to change the fee setup in their course to say $150-500 per signing, eh? NOT.
